Job summary

Johnson Controls Canada is seeking a field technician to install, commission and verify Fire Alarm systems. You will read blueprints, coordinate with electricians and conduct acceptance tests, while preparing As Built drawings and maintaining up-to-date product knowledge.

Travel within the district and supervised programming of smaller systems are required parts of the role. The ideal candidate has a college diploma in Fire Protection or Electrical/Electronic, CFAA certification, and strong

Qualifications

  • Completion of a college diploma in Fire Protection, Electrical/Electronic, or equivalent experience.
  • Completion of CFAA certification.
  • Ability to program basic operations on micro-processor-based systems without supervision.
  • Proficient with computers, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Windows OS.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills with electronic test equipment.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to articulate technical solutions clearly.
  • Valid Full G driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assisted installation, commissioning, and verification on Fire Alarm equipment, including device and circuit connections.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, submittals, and specifications.
  • Supervise and coordinate work with electricians on Fire Alarm systems.
  • Complete verification reports for customers and conduct system acceptance tests with AHJs.
  • Produce As Built drawings after job completion.
  • Stay up to date with product line knowledge.
  • Identify deficiencies and code issues in the field during verification.
  • Travel within the district as required.
  • Make small programming modifications to existing systems under supervision.
  • Program small systems upon training.
  • Assist in developing employee training programs for staff and customers.

What you will do


  • Perform assisted installation, commissioning, and verification activities on Fire Alarm related equipment, including connection of devices and circuits.


  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, submittals, and specifications.


  • Supervise and coordinate work with electricians working on Fire Alarm systems.


  • Complete verification reports for submittal to customers and carry out system acceptance tests with AHJ’s and other interested parties.


  • Complete As Built drawings on the completion of the job.


  • Maintain up to date knowledge of various product lines.


  • Identify general deficiencies and code issues in the field during verification.


  • Travel throughout the District business area when required.


  • Conduct small programming modifications to an existing system with supervision.


  • Program small systems (upon training)


  • Assist in developing employee training programs for employees and customers.



What we look for

Required


  • Completion of a college diploma in Fire Protection, Electrical/Electronic, or equivalent experience, or actively pursuing such qualification.


  • Completion of a Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) certification


  • Demonstrated ability to program basic operations on micro-processor-based systems without supervision.


  • Proficient in the use of computers, Microsoft excel, word, and Windows operating systems.


  • Basic troubleshooting skills with working knowledge of electronic test equipment.


  • Ability to express clear technical solutions in a clear and concise manner.


  • Ability to lift equipment and tools up to 40lbs.


  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding.


  • Possess a valid Full G driver’s license.


  • Strong communication skills and customer service focus.


  • This is a union position. Placement within the pay range will be determined based on the candidate’s level of training and experience. The highest pay rate is reserved for individuals who are fully trained, including expertise in panel programming and other required skills.



Pay Range: $25.25-$42.59 hourly rate determined by the CBA/rate sheet. Benefits are providedthrough a local labor union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement. The posted salaryrange reflects the target compensation for this role. However, we recognize that exceptional
