Job summary

WayGood Kitchens in Edmonton is seeking an experienced Cabinet Finisher for our hand-spray shop. You will be responsible for finishing cabinets with sealers, primers, coats, and color, using Kremlin pumps and gravity-fed guns to achieve consistent, showroom-ready results.

You’ll prep surfaces, sand MDF and wood, mix stains, log sample panels, and uphold WHMIS and booth safety every shift. Cross-training across the shop helps balance workload and keep pay steady.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years finishing in a cabinet, millwork, furniture or architectural woodwork shop.
• Solid manual spray skills with Kremlin wall-mount pumps and gravity-fed guns.
• Experience sanding MDF, veneer and solid woods; including pre-sanding sealers and primers.
• Comfort spraying sealers, primers, clear coats and solid colours.
• Knowledge of WHMIS and spray booth safety; follow it consistently.

Responsibilities

• Hand-spray sealers, primers, clear coats from matte to gloss and solid colour topcoats.
• Set pressure, tips, fan pattern and atomization for Kremlin pumps.
• Use gravity-fed guns for detail, touch-up, toning and small batches.
• Mixing, reducing and catalyzing to spec; control film build and flash-off.

WayGood Cabinets is [a growing custom cabinet manufacturer serving builders, designers and homeowners across [region]]. [One or two sentences on what you build, who you build it for, and what makes the shop worth working in.] We are hiring an experienced Cabinet Finisher to join our Finishing Department.

This is a hand-spray shop.

We don’t run a spray line — which means we don’t hire button-pushers. The finish that goes out our door is the one you put on it, and everything the shop does upstream is judged on your work. If that sounds like pressure, it is. If it sounds like the reason to take the job, keep reading.

What You’ll Be Doing

Spray Finishing

• Hand-spraying sealers, primers, clear coats from matte to gloss, and solid colour topcoats.
• Running wall-mount Kremlin pumps — setting pressure, tips, fan pattern and atomization for the material and the part.
• Working gravity-fed guns for detail, touch-up, toning and small-batch colour.
• Mixing, reducing and catalyzing to spec, and controlling film build and flash-off coat to coat.

Sanding & Surface Prep

• Sanding MDF, veneer and solid woods to the right grit progression for the finish system.
• Pre-sanding sealers and primers — de-nibbing clean without cutting through on edges and profiles.
• Running our OMNI robotic sander and brush sander.
• Filling and repairing defects so the repair disappears under the stain.

Stain & Colour

• Staining by wiping, spraying, shading and toning to hit the approved sample.
• Adjusting stain colours — reading a target, tinting, and getting the match without guessing at it.
• Blending colour across doors, drawer fronts and boxes so a finished kitchen reads as one piece.
• Building and logging sample panels for customer and designer approval.

Quality, Equipment & Safety

• Inspecting your own work under proper light and owning the defect if you find one.
• Keeping guns, pumps, lines, filters and abrasives clean and current — daily, not eventually.
• Working safe: respirator, PPE, WHMIS, booth airflow, solvent handling. Non-negotiable, every shift.

Helping Out When Finishing Slows Down

Finishing volume moves with the schedule. When it’s slow, we’d rather have you contributing somewhere else in the shop than sent home — assembly, edgebanding, hardware, packaging, install touch-ups, wherever you’re useful. If you’ve worked other areas of a cabinet shop, tell us. It matters here.

What You Bring

• [3–5]+ years finishing in a cabinet, millwork, furniture or architectural woodwork shop.
• Real manual spray skill — Kremlin wall-mount pumps and gravity-fed guns.
• Sanding proficiency across MDF, veneer and solid woods, including pre-sanding sealers and primers.
• Staining by wiping, spraying, shading and toning — and the ability to adjust a stain colour to hit a match.
• Comfort spraying sealers, primers, clear coats and solid colours.
• Experience on robotic and brush sanders (OMNI or equivalent).
• A working knowledge of WHMIS and spray booth safety, and the discipline to actually follow it.
• The eye. You notice the nib, the shade shift and the sag before anyone else does.

Nice to Have

• Experience in other areas of a cabinet shop — assembly, edgebanding, CNC, hardware, install or shipping.
• Journeyman Cabinetmaker ticket or a finishing / wood products certificate.
• Conversion varnish, pre-cat or post-cat lacquer, 2K polyurethane or waterborne systems.
• A current respirator fit test.
• Experience showing an apprentice how it’s done.

Compensation

$18-35 per hour, based on demonstrated skill — not on a number of years.
