Job summary

Cabinet Expressions in Coalhurst, Alberta is seeking a Finishing Assistant to support the preparation and finishing of custom cabinetry and millwork. This is a great opportunity for someone detail-oriented and eager to learn, with on-the-job training and growth opportunities available.

We offer full-time hours (Mon–Fri, 7:30am–5:00pm) in a shop environment. Benefits become available after probation, and wage ranges from $20 to $25 per hour depending on experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in woodworking/cabinetry is an asset (training provided)
• Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Physically able to stand, lift, and perform repetitive tasks

Responsibilities

• Surface Preparation: Sand, prepare,clean, and inspect raw wood components to prepare them for finishing.
• Staining & Sealing: Apply stains, sealers, and other treatments to enhance wood grain and match design specifications.
• Wood Repair: Identify and repair imperfections such as knots, cracks, and dents using fillers, putty, and other techniques.
• Quality Control: Ensure all pieces meet company standards before moving them to the finishing stage.
• Tool & Equipment Use: Safely operate sanders, spray equipment, and other finishing tools.
• Work Area Maintenance: Keep the finishing area clean, organized, and compliant with safety regulations.
• Scheduling: Adhere to deadlines for production schedules, maintain organization and cleanliness.
• Safety: Follow safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE.
• Assist with other shop duties as needed.

POSITION SUMMARY

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Full-time, Monday–Friday (7:30am–5:00pm)
• Shop environment (noise, dust, and equipment, PPE required)
