Job summary

Blackline Civil Inc. is seeking a Finish Excavator for civil construction projects in Alberta. The role focuses on precise trenching near live utilities and installing water, sewer, and storm systems.

You will read grade stakes, follow site plans, and coordinate with crews to ensure safe, compliant work and timely completion.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of excavator experience in underground or civil construction.
• Proven experience working around live utilities.
• Strong understanding of trenching and excavation safety practices.
• Ability to read grade stakes, plans, and utility drawings.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators for trenching, backfilling, grading, and utility installation.
• Safely expose existing underground utilities.
• Work around live gas, electrical, water, and telecom lines.
• Follow grade stakes, trench depths, and site plans with precision.
• Coordinate with pipe layers, labourers, and supervisors.
• Conduct daily pre-trip inspections and routine equipment maintenance.
• Maintain trench safety in compliance with regulations (shoring, sloping, benching).
• Ensure all work is performed according to safety standards and project specs.

About the Role

We’re looking for a skilled and safety-driven Finish Excavator with experience in underground construction. In this role, you’ll be responsible for precise excavation around live utilities and installation of underground infrastructure such as water, sewer, and storm systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate excavators for trenching, backfilling, grading, and utility installation
• Safely expose existing underground utilities
• Work around live gas, electrical, water, and telecom lines
• Follow grade stakes, trench depths, and site plans with precision
• Coordinate closely with pipe layers, labourers, and supervisors
• Conduct daily pre-trip inspections and routine equipment maintenance
• Maintain trench safety in compliance with regulations (shoring, sloping, benching)
• Ensure all work is performed according to safety standards and project specs
