As Controller, you will work with a skilled Management Team and Financial Leaders, supporting the development and implementation of financial policies, systems and procedures to optimize reporting and internal controls. The role includes coordinating external requirements, review/analysis and reporting of financial data and statements, and collaborating with managers and teams from locations across Canada, the USA and Mexico. Responsibilities include:

1.0 Financial Accounting and Reporting

• Develop a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the internal workings of head office and subsidiary/parent companies and their departments to support the management team and contribute to new ideas, plans and business strategies.

• Oversee the accounting functions including month-end close, financial statements, financial analysis and reporting for multiple locations in different countries. Manage month end and year end cycles. Assist in the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with IFRS.

• Maintain communication with the Management Team and present regular up to date financial analysis and reports. Analyze, identify discrepancies and converse with senior management to make recommendations or create efficiencies.

• Collaborate and support the preparation of annual budgets and long-term financial plans for Canadian and international operations in collaboration with senior management. Provide financial insights and analyses to support strategic decision-making.

2.0 Systems, Compliance and Controls

• Recommend and implement financial policies, systems and procedures with the goal of improving reporting and internal controls. Liaison with managers and employees at all locations to improve policies and processes.

• Gain proficiency in utilizing and optimizing the use of the financial ERP software system (QAD).Maintain overall control of transactions entering the system, ensuring adherence to local and international tax laws, regulations, and accounting standards.

• Identify automation efficiencies and controls to be incorporated in the ERP system to enhance business, finance, sales, manufacturing, technical and operations. Collaborate with IT specialists to develop and implement streamlined technology, processes and systems.

3.0 Team Leadership and Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Oversee the accounting team and assist/mentor other departments and locations. Collaborate closely with and monitor cross-functional teams at other locations to drive efficiency, optimize processes, and uphold high standards of financial integrity.

• Assist with troubleshooting as needed, providing solutions to resolve operations, customer or vendor issues.

4.0 Auditing and Inventory Control

• Coordinate on-site audits and liaise with external Auditors for Canadian and international operations.
• Manage annual fall inventory counts at each location.

***Must have a valid passport and the ability to travel into countries of operation (Canada, USA, Mexico)***

As the successful candidate, you will bring:

EDUCATION:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Commerce or related field
• CPA designation is required.

EXPERIENCE:

• 3-5 years in a Controller role, supported by 10+ years of accounting experience in continually progressive roles.
• In-depth working knowledge of GAAP and familiarity with IFRS.Strong working knowledge of relevant provincial / state/ federal / international legislation
• Several years of experience in accounting, auditing, budgeting, financial planning and analysis are required.
• Automation development experience is an asset.

TECHNICAL/COMPUTER:

• Knowledge and experience in using Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) software (QAD is an asset).
• Working knowledge of MS Office suite and the ability to learn other software. Excellent knowledge and use of Excel / Google sheets

Hours of work: Monday to Friday. Required work days are the first 5 days of each month, the first quarter, and 2-3 weeks in October/November, for financial purposes. Some international business travel is required
