Job summary

Snaplii, a fast-growing Canadian fintech, is seeking a detail-oriented Controller to oversee day-to-day accounting and financial operations in Toronto, in-person. You will ensure accurate GAAP reporting, strengthen internal controls, and support rapid growth with sound financial management.

The ideal candidate has 6–10 years in accounting or finance, has CPA or equivalent, and can lead a finance team while partnering with Product, Risk, and Growth to drive business performance.

Qualifications

• 6–10 years in accounting or finance, fintech, payments, or e-commerce.
• CPA designation or equivalent preferred.
• Experience leading accounting operations in a scaling business.
• Solid GAAP knowledge and financial reporting experience.
• Startup experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting operations including general ledger, payables/receivables, payroll, and month-end close.
• Prepare accurate financial statements in line with GAAP.
• Manage cash flow, reconciliations, and intercompany transactions.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis with business units.
• Design and maintain internal controls; coordinate external audits and tax filings.
• Partner with Product, Risk and Growth to align financial tracking with business performance.

This role will be instrumental in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting the company's rapid growth with sound financial management.The ideal candidate has solid experience in accounting and finance operations within fintech, payments, or high-growth environments, and can balance hands-on execution with team leadership.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Operations & Reporting• Lead all aspects of accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and month-end close• Prepare and review accurate, timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP• Manage cash flow, reconciliations, and intercompany transactions• Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal policiesBudgeting & Forecasting• Support budgeting and forecasting processes in collaboration with business unit leaders• Monitor actuals versus budgets and provide variance analysis with actionable insights• Maintain strong cost control discipline and assist in optimizing expense efficiencyInternal Controls & Audit• Design, implement, and maintain robust internal control systems• Coordinate and support external audits and tax filings• Drive continuous improvement in accounting processes, documentation, and system automationBusiness Partnership• Work closely with Product, Risk, and Growth teams to align financial tracking with business performance• Provide financial data and insights that support operational and strategic decision-making• Assist in evaluating new initiatives, partnerships, and vendor contracts from a financial perspectiveTeam Leadership• Manage and mentor accounting and finance team members• Promote accuracy, accountability, and efficiency across all financial workflowsIdeal Candidate ProfileExperience & Expertise• 6–10 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably in fintech, payments, or e-commerce• Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and compliance requirements• Proven track record managing accounting operations in a scaling business environment• Startup experience (1+ years preferred)Technical Skills• Proficiency with accounting and ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar)• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skillsQualifications & Certifications• CPA designation or equivalent is highly preferredLanguage Skills• Mandarin proficiency is preferredPersonal Attributes• Hands-on and detail-oriented approach• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environmentPosition DetailsExperience Required6–10 years in accounting/financeIndustry PreferenceFintech, payments, or e-commerceLocationToronto, CanadaWork ModelIn-Person
