The Position
As a Controller, reporting to the President, you will oversee all financial and accounting operations of Progrus, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and alignment with strategic business goals. This role involves direct responsibility for accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, and treasury functions. Must possess a strong background in construction finance and a proven track record of leadership in a dynamic environment.
Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 5 pm (flexible pending business needs)
Location: 444 Chilcotin Rd – Mt Paul Industrial Park

Key Responsibilities:
•Direct all accounting operations, including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Project Cost Accounting, and Revenue Recognition.
•Manage the daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy and time lines of financial reporting.
•Prepare and present financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, andcash flow statements.
•Develop and maintain budgets and forecasts, providing insightful variance analysis to senior management.
•Oversee project costing and job profitability analysis, partnering with project managers to optimize margins.
•Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal legal requirements, filing reports, and advising management on needed actions.
•Manage cash flow and financing strategies, including banking relationships and lines of credit.
•Coordinate the completion of year end financial statements and tax filings by external accountants.
•Implement and maintain internal controls and accounting policies to safeguard company assets.
•Mentor and develop the finance and accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
Qualifications, Education/Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:
•Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field (required).
•CPA designation highly desirable.
•Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, ProContractor by Viewpoint, or similar an asset).
•Valid driver’s license.
Experience:
•At least 3–5 years of progressively responsible accounting and financial leadership experience, preferably in the construction industry or related sectors (e.g., real estate development, engineering).
•Experience in a senior finance position (e.g., Controller, Finance Director, or equivalent) an asset.
•Experience with construction-specifc financial practices, including job costing, WIP (Work-in-Progress) schedules, percentage-of-completion accounting, and contract billing preferred.
•Proven track record in leading financial statement preparation, tax preparation, managing regulatory compliance, and improving internal control systems.
•Proven experience in:
Budgeting, forecasting, and managing cash flow for large-scale construction projects
Leading and mentoring accounting/finance teams
Skills and Abilities:
•General knowledge of construction accounting principles and government taxcompliance regulations.
•Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and financial modeling.
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of presenting financial data to non-financial stakeholders.
•Strong leadership and team-building skills; ability to motivate and develop staff.
•Demonstrated success in supporting strategic decisions through financial insight and forecasting.
•Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
•Experience implementing systems, controls, and process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and accuracy.
