The Financial Controller at Bartels Group Inc (BGI) is a key leadership role responsible for supporting the financial operations of the Group’s diverse operating companies, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. This position plays a crucial role in managing payroll activities, delivering financial insights, and daily collaborating with leadership to drive strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented and results-driven professional with a strong background in accounting and finance, particularly in multi-entity environments.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage accounting functions including GL, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting and Revenue Recognition
- Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements and report variances
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
- Prepare costing and financial analysis support as needed – in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, contract negotiations and financial partners
- Coordinate the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts
- Ensure compliance with ASPE and other regulatory reporting
- Support month-end and year-end close process
- Manage and comply with local, provincial, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Work closely with IM system providers and staff to ensure the integrity of the IM systems and that the functionality is leveraged
- Help manage key external relationships including insurance, banking, auditors, legal, IM support, etc. and provide supporting information as needed
- Work closely with the managers of the various companies to support their growth strategies
KEY COMPETENCIES
- Manage members of the accounting team, which includes, hiring, training, performance management, terminations etc.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong computer proficiency in Office365 software applications, especially MS Excel
- Experience with a wide range of accounting software
- Thorough understanding of ASPE principles and knowledge of relevant federal, provincial, and local requirements.
Education, Training, Certifications And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business
- CPA designation
- 3+ years’ experience in a controllership role or similar experience
