Job summary

Preferred Energy Inc is seeking a Financial Controller to oversee the accounting, budgeting and financial reporting functions in our Estevan office. This full-time, in-office position runs Monday through Friday and reports to senior management.

The ideal candidate will have strong accounting software proficiency, attention to detail and experience in financial policy development, with a CPA designation considered an asset.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in accounting software, spreadsheets, and financial reporting tools.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, leadership skills, and ability to analyze financial data.
• Effective verbal and written communication for reporting and responding to inquiries.
• Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure, and maintain accuracy.
• Bachelor's degree in business, administration, economics or similar is preferred.
• An Accounting degree or CPA designation would be considered an asset.
• 10+ in administration/finance and/or at least 5 in a controller or similar role.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the operation of an accounting, audit or other financial department
• Develop and implement the financial policies, systems and procedures of an establishment
• Prepare or coordinate the preparation of financial statements, summaries, and other cost-benefit analyses and financial management reports
• Coordinate the financial planning and budget process, and analyze and correct estimates
• Supervise the development and implementation of financial simulation models
• Evaluate financial reporting systems, accounting procedures and investment activities and make recommendations for changes to procedures, operating systems, budgets and other financial control functions to senior managers and other department or regional managers
• Notify and report to senior management concerning any trends that are critical to the organization's financial performance
