The Role

Seeking experienced audit professionals to support the Political Financing & Audit (PF&A) division. The role involves conducting compliance and financial audits of registered political entities to ensure adherence to the Canada Elections Act (CEA). Auditors will assess financial returns, validate documentation, and communicate with political agents to clarify findings. Responsibilities also include responding to inquiries via a year-round call center, preparing audit documentation, and contributing to audit planning and reporting. This work plays a critical role in promoting transparency and accountability in Canada’s electoral process.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Conduct compliance and financial audits, including completeness checks, substantive testing, and preparation of working papers.
  • Analyze audit results, process adjustments, and draft referrals for non-compliance with the CEA as required.
  • Develop and implement audit plans, strategies, and programs for key project areas.
  • Document findings using established tools, and present audit observations and recommendations to management.
  • Organize, conduct, and report on audit tasks in line with approved plans.
  • Retrieve and analyze data from financial systems, providing audit process analysis and support to project resources as needed.

What You Bring to the Table

  • Must have a professional designation in any one of the following: CPA, CA, CMA, or CGA.
  • 5+ years of experience in external audit of financial statements and related services.
  • Must have demonstrable experience delivering financial compliance audits or recipient audit projects for Canadian federal, provincial, or municipal government departments or agencies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, including senior management within government environments.
  • Currently residing in the Ottawa-Gatineau region and holding, or being eligible to obtain, a Government of Canada Reliability or Secret security clearance.
