Reporting to the Senior Manager Treasury, the Financial Analyst will work with a team of treasury professionals to plan cash requirements for a number of business entities, ensure treasury transactions are appropriately verified and recorded, and prepare reports and documentation supporting Treasury activities.

The Financial Analyst should be skilled with systems including Excel and will be expected to become a power user of Kyriba, the treasury management system used by Emera. This role will act as the liaison between Treasury and other internal business units, and be the point of contact for external counterparties for settlement of Financial Transactions. The Financial Analyst will also work with Investor Services in the administration of Emera’s Common Share Purchase Plan.

The Treasury department deals with a variety of complex financial transactions including foreign exchange, debt and equity issuance, and hedging financial risks. As such, the Financial Analyst position should appeal to applicants interested in learning more about Treasury and Corporate Finance, and who already have a solid foundation in financial reporting.

Key elements of the role include:

  • Compiling information on cash requirements, including foreign currency needs, from various sources within the company and updating cash planning spreadsheets and our treasury management system.
  • Transferring cash between banks and accounts as required for cash balancing purposes.
  • Confirming details of Treasury transactions with counterparties for settlement of deals.
  • Ensuring Treasury activity is recorded accurately in accounting records.
  • Coordinating payment of debt service and dividend payments for several Emera companies.
  • Preparing financial reports, account reconciliations, and accounting information to aid in the reporting of Treasury transactions.
  • Assisting in the compilation of Month End, Quarter End, and Year End reporting information.
  • Liaising with internal business units to ensure completeness of financial information collected.
  • Working with external financial partners, including banks and Transfer Agent to ensure timely settlement of financial transactions, and to research and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Monitoring and reporting on NSPI’s Defeasance Portfolio.

Skills, Capabilities and Experience:

You demonstrate strong relationship skills and an ability to work well with people at various levels within the organization. Our ideal candidate is detail-oriented and possesses strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills. You must be able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, team-focused environment with the ability to work independently and to meet tight deadlines.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Commerce, with a minimum of two years of experience in a financial role is required. Preference may be offered to applicants working toward a professional accounting or other financial designation. A related combination of experience and education will be considered.
  • This role has access to confidential information and to bank accounts for reporting and cash balancing purposes; therefore, the incumbent must have and maintain the highest degree of integrity.
  • The successful candidate is proficient with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, has experience with financial reporting systems, and is comfortable creating and analyzing spreadsheets and reports. Knowledge of Oracle software would be an asset.
