Position Overview

Reporting to the Supervisor, Operational Reporting and working out of the Calgary Corporate Office on a hybrid schedule, with Tuesday - Thursday in office and Monday / Friday with the option to work from home, the Financial Analyst will be responsible for financial analysis for the operational functions and month-end close, as well as providing support to departments and leading forecasting and the annual budget / 5-year plan for site departments allocated to the role. Occasional travel to the Ekati mine site may be required.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  1. Prepare for monthly departmental cost review meetings, including detailed cost variance analysis;
  2. Maintain costing in SAP for the month-end close, including preparing journal entries for cost allocations, accruals, prepaid entries, down payments, etc.;
  3. Prepare accounting entries or memos for complex accounting issues if required;
  4. Support departments in preparing budgets and forecasts including presentations and training on financial topics;
  5. Work with assigned area managers to record and monitor their cost and spending;
  6. Support other team members as needed;
  7. Prepare period-end internal controls and reconciliations over financial reporting;
  8. ADHOC projects as required.

Education/Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree with focus on accounting/business/finance;
  2. Professional designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) with 3+ years of relevant experience;
  3. Experience in preparing budgets, forecasts and analyses;
  4. Experience with SAP is preferred;
  5. Display critical thinking and the ability to analyze complex situations and demonstrated ability to work independently with minimum guidance;
  6. Motivated, proactive and timeline-driven team player;
  7. Ability to handle multiple deadlines and a high-pressure environment.
