Job summary

Toronto Hydro Corporation in Toronto, Ontario seeks a Financial Analyst to support capital accounting, governance and the company’s capital program with rigorous financial analysis. Qualifications

  • Three or more years of progressive financial analysis experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance.
  • Pursuing CPA designation; preference for candidates with CPA.
  • Strong IFRS knowledge, especially capitalization and fixed assets.
  • Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills; SAP experience.
  • Ability to analyze large datasets and communicate with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze capital project expenditures for capitalization, asset classification, cost recoveries, and IFRS compliance.

Target Variable Performance Pay: 8%

The salary range shown above reflects the expected compensation for this position. The final salary offered will be determined based on a holistic assessment of the candidate’s experience, education, training, and alignment with the role’s requirements. For positions covered by a collective agreement, placement within the range will follow the applicable step or classification.

Reporting to the Manager, Capital Accounting & Reporting, the Financial Analyst plays a critical role in supporting the financial stewardship, governance, and execution of Toronto Hydro's capital investment portfolio. As a trusted finance partner to operational and project teams, the incumbent provides insightful financial analysis, reporting, forecasting, and accounting expertise that enable sound investment decisions, optimize capital expenditure utilization, and ensure compliance with regulatory and accounting requirements.

The Financial Analyst is responsible for delivering accurate and timely financial information, supporting month-end and year-end activities, strengthening internal controls, and driving continuous process improvements across the capital accounting function. The role contributes directly to effective asset lifecycle management, financial transparency, and the successful delivery of Toronto Hydro's capital program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Analyze capital project expenditures to ensure appropriate capitalization, asset classification, cost recoveries, and compliance with IFRS, corporate policies, and internal controls.
  • Partner with business units and project teams to provide guidance on accounting requirements, capitalization policies, financial impacts, and documentation standards.
  • Review project agreements and contracts to determine appropriate third-party cost recoveries and accounting treatment.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reporting activities, ensuring the timely and accurate recognition of capital assets and in-service asset reporting.
  • Identify, assess, and implement improvements to capital accounting processes, controls, and reporting to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Monitor and evaluate financial risks and internal controls, ensuring adherence to accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Perform financial analysis and reporting to support business planning, forecasting, and strategic decision-making.
  • Participate in special projects and finance initiatives as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Three (3) or more years of progressive financial analysis experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance
  • Actively pursuing a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in Canada; preference will be given to candidates who have obtained their CPA designation.
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), particularly related to capitalization and fixed assets.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint and Word.
  • Experience working with complex ERP systems, preferably SAP, and the ability to analyze and manage large, complex datasets.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Effective organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative working relationships and provide effective customer service.
  • Adaptable and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exercises sound judgment and maintains confidentiality when handling sensitive information.

This position is based in a hybrid environment allowing for remote work two days per week, based on business needs. Employees will be required to come onsite Tuesday to Thursday. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
