Job summary

TFO Canada is seeking a Financial Analyst in Ottawa to support financial management across budgets, reporting, and donor compliance. The role entails preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, liaising with partners, and assisting the Director of Finance and Administration in financial statements for the Board.

Qualifications

  • Permanent resident or citizen of Canada.
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
  • CPA or CFA or enrolled in one of these programs within 3–5 years.
  • 3–5 years of professional experience in financial analysis and reporting.
  • Strong budgeting, financial reporting and donor compliance experience.
  • Proficiency in Excel (Macros, Pivot tables, V-lookup) and QuickBooks Online.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • English proficiency; French/Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for management, funders, and the Board.
  • Ensure donor requirements, accounting standards and internal policies are met.

  • Assist year-end closing, audits, and maintain transaction documentation.
  • Assist in preparing consolidated financial statements.

Financial Analyst

TFO Canada is seeking to recruit a full-time Financial Analyst (FA) based in Ottawa. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the financial management of the organization and its projects, with responsibilities covering financial systems, accounting, budgeting, and program administration.

The Financial Analyst will be primarily responsible for preparing project-level and organizational financial reports, serving as the financial liaison with partners, and supporting the Director of Finance and Administration in the preparation of financial statements for TFO Canada’s Board of Directors. In addition, the FA will provide financial and administrative support to the project management team to ensure effective delivery of program activities.

Job responsibilities:
  • Develop, monitor, analyze, and support the Director of Finance and Administration on organizational, business development and project budgets.
  • Responsible for overseeing, coordinating and timely preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for management, funders, and the Board of Directors.
  • Ensure compliance with donor requirements, accounting standards, and internal policies.
  • Act as the financial liaison with partners and project managers, providing guidance and oversight on financial matters, troubleshooting, and problem solving for program specific information and issues.
  • Review partners’ financial reports and provide feedback to ensure compliance and complete supporting documentation.
  • Assist year-end closing, support audits, and maintain proper documentation for financial transactions.
  • Assist the Director of Finance and Administration in preparing consolidated financial statements.
  • Provide financial insights and prepare ad-hoc reports to project managers and program directors to strengthen decision-making and resource allocation.
Qualifications:
  • Permanent resident or citizen of Canada
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field (a diploma in Finance is a strong asset).
  • Advanced professional certifications such as CPA or CFA. Candidates who are currently enrolled in one of these certification programs, with the intention of completing the requirements within the next three to five years, will also be considered.
  • Three to five years of professional experience in financial analysis and reporting, preferably within a non-profit or mission-driven organization.
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, and donor compliance, specifically with government funded projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Macros, Pivot tables, V-lookup, and financial management systems. Working experience with Quickbooks online and database applications is an asset.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the non-profit sector.
  • Strong ability to multi-task and manage multiple stakeholder relations.
  • Well organized, self-starter and independent worker.
  • Able to work well in a team and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent proficiency in English communication is essential. The ability to communicate effectively in French and Spanish will be considered a significant asset.

Compensation:

TFO Canada offers a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experienceandthenormsoftheinternationaldevelopmentNGOsector. Assuchthe salary range is $69,600.00 - $80,000.00

Work Location:

Work at TFO Canada includes a hybrid work model, therefore, this role will be a combination of virtual and on-site work. Our office is located in downtown Ottawa. The successful candidate will need to live within the greater Ottawa-Gatineau area in Canada and to be a permanent resident or citizen of Canada.
