Job description

Reporting directly to the Manager of Financial Services, the Finance Support Analyst is responsible for the full range of accounting functions, including bank reconciliations, accounts receivable, balance sheet reconciliations, financial aid transactions, etc. The Finance Support Analyst will ensure that all activities are conducted ethically and in accordance with College policies and procedures. The role requires awareness of the Mission and Values of North Island College, incorporating and practicing these values in daily duties.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Perform accounts receivable duties, including coding verification, data accuracy, document distribution, and filing.
  2. Follow up on outstanding receivables, prepare and send statements.
  3. Maintain professional relationships with customers, sponsors, and funding partners.
  4. Coordinate with College staff on invoicing and receivable status.
  5. Address inquiries regarding invoicing and assist Registration Assistants.
  6. Assist with administration of the Colleague AR and GL systems.
  7. Reconcile balance sheet accounts, investigate discrepancies, and take corrective actions.
  8. Reconcile College bank accounts monthly.
  9. Manage payment provider inquiries (PayPal).
  10. Monitor wire payments and coordinate with departments for proper allocation.
  11. Resolve billing issues and correct financial errors on accounts.
  12. Review student disbursements for policy compliance.
  13. Review and monitor education contracts, prepare invoicing or transfers.
  14. T4A processing and distribution.
  15. Handle inquiries from Student Services, International Education, and Student Records.
  16. Support the Office of Global Engagement with denied Study Permits, ensuring policy adherence and resolving banking issues.
  17. Analyze revenues/expenditures for monthly deferrals/accruals, maintaining documentation.
  18. Assist with banking, general ledger, and external reporting tasks.
  19. Prepare and file GST and PST remittances, staying updated on tax regulations.
  20. Complete full cycle accounting for the North Island College Foundation, including quarterly financial statements.
  21. Assist with year-end procedures and audits, including preparing supporting documents.
  22. Perform system testing prior to software updates.
  23. Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of Financial Services.
Required Education & Experience
  • Minimum three years post-secondary education in an accredited CPA PEP program, including core competency completion.
  • At least three years of accounting experience in a sizable organization, preferably in the public sector.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel and Word.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with large financial databases; Colleague experience is an asset.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of accounting standards (PSAB), preferably in public sector.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills, exercising tact and good judgment.
  • Ability to work well independently and in team settings.
  • Attention to detail and data entry accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
