Working closely with senior leadership and project management teams, the Accounting Manager will provide financial insight, strengthen accounting processes, and help drive informed business decisions.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with a practical understanding of construction operations, project financials, and the ability to lead and develop an accounting team.

Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Accounting Operations
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and general accounting administration.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes, ensuring accurate and timely reporting in accordance with ASPE.
  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and financial statements to maintain the integrity of financial records.
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital, banking activities, and short-term financial requirements.
  • Maintain effective internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to support accuracy, consistency, and operational efficiency.
Construction & Project Accounting
  • Oversee project-level financial reporting, including job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) schedules, percentage-of-completion accounting, and profitability analysis.
  • Monitor project budgets, costs, commitments, and financial performance, identifying discrepancies and potential risks.
  • Review subcontractor invoices, progress billings, construction draws, and holdback calculations to ensure accuracy and compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Work closely with project managers and operational teams to track project costs, investigate variances, and provide meaningful financial insights.
  • Support project forecasting and cash flow planning to help ensure financial visibility throughout the project lifecycle.
Planning, Compliance & Process Improvement
  • Assist with corporate and project-level budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Ensure timely and accurate HST filings, payroll remittances, WSIB reporting, and other applicable statutory requirements.
  • Coordinate year-end audits and work with external accountants, financial institutions, and other professional stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, reporting processes, and financial controls.
  • Support senior management with financial analysis, reporting, and recommendations to facilitate business planning and decision-making.
Team Leadership
  • Supervise, support, and develop accounting staff, promoting accountability and a collaborative working environment.
  • Establish clear processes and expectations to ensure deadlines are met and accounting deliverables remain accurate.
  • Work cross-functionally with finance, project management, and operations to support the organization's overall financial objectives.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • CPA designation is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
  • Previous experience in construction management, construction contracting, real estate development, or a similar project-based environment is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction accounting, including WIP reporting, job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting, progress billing, and holdbacks.
  • Demonstrated experience managing month-end and year-end close processes and preparing financial statements in accordance with ASPE.
  • Experience with project budgeting, cost tracking, cash flow management, and financial variance analysis.
  • Knowledge of HST, payroll remittances, WSIB, and other relevant compliance requirements.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with accounting systems or construction-focused ERP platforms.
  • Experience with Jonas, Sage 300, Viewpoint, Procore Financials, or comparable systems is an asset.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
The Ideal Candidate
