Job summary

Ottawa Salus is seeking a Finance Manager to lead the finance team and oversee financial reporting, budgeting, audits and compliance. This role requires CPA designation and significant not-for-profit experience, including funder reporting and payroll oversight.

You will partner with operational leaders to drive accurate financials, streamline processes, and strengthen internal controls across the organization. Strong English communication is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Commerce or related field.
• CPA designation or in final stages of completion.
• 2+ years supervisory experience in accounting.
• 5+ years experience in AP/AR/payroll and benefits in not-for-profit/charity.
• Funder reporting knowledge is a strong asset.
• Proficient with MS Office and Sage Intacct/Sage 300/APA/Ceridian/ADP.

The Opportunity

Ottawa Salus is seeking a Finance Managerto lead the day-to-day operations of its Finance function and help strengthen financial reporting, planning, controls, systems and service across the organization. Reporting to the VP, Finance, the role provides financial and department leadership across financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, audit preparation, payroll oversight, funder reporting, financial systems, statutory compliance and continuous improvement.

This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional who enjoys combining technical accounting with team leadership, financial analysis, process improvement and partnership with operational leaders. The successful candidate will help ensure that financial information is accurate, timely and meaningful while building the capacity of the Finance team and supporting sound organizational decision-making.

What You’ll Do

Lead the Finance Team

• Provide day to day leadership, supervision, coaching, and direction to the Finance staff.
• Monitor team capacity and recommend changes to responsibilities, workflows, or staffing where appropriate.
• Model Salus values, leadership competencies, professionalism and continuous improvement.

Financial Accounting and Reporting

• Lead the monthly, quarterly and year-end financial close processes and ensure financial records are complete, accurate and timely.
• Prepare monthly financial statements, management reports, variance analysis and forecasts for review by the VP, Finance.
• Review account reconciliations, journal entries, supporting schedules and other financial work prepared by Finance staff.
• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, chart of accounts, reporting structure and balance-sheet reconciliations.

Budgeting, Forecasting and Financial Planning

• Coordinate the annual operating and capital budget process in consultation with the VP, Finance.
• Support managers in developing realistic budgets and understanding financial assumptions.
• Prepare and maintain rolling forecasts and support cash flow forecasting and cash management activities.

Funder Reporting and Program Financial Management

• Oversee financial reporting for government, municipal and other funded programs.
• Maintain appropriate documentation and audit trails to support funder reporting and compliance reviews.

Financial Controls, Systems, and Continuous Improvement

• Develop, recommend, maintain and continuously improve financial policies, procedures and internal controls in consultation with the VP, Finance.
• Identify opportunities to streamline, standardize and automate Finance processes and reduce manual or duplicative work.
• Support effective use and ongoing development of Sage Intacct and related finance, payroll and reporting systems.
• Ensure key Finance processes are documented and that appropriate backup and cross-training arrangements are in place

Audit, Compliance, and Statutory Compliance

• Coordinate the annual external audit in consultation with the VP, Finance, including preparation of working papers, schedules and draft financial statements.
• Serve as a key Finance contact for external auditors and coordinate responses to audit requests.
• Oversee preparation, reconciliation and timely filing of applicable annual and periodic returns and reports, including the Registered Charity Information Return, HST, EHT, WSIB, pension reporting and other required filings.

Payroll and Benefits Oversight

• Ensure required payroll remittances and reconciliations are completed accurately and on time.
• Oversee annual payroll reconciliations and preparation of T4 and related payroll reporting.
• Work collaboratively with Human Resources and payroll staff to resolve payroll and benefit administration issues with financial implications.

Perform other related duties and responsibilities assigned by the VP, Finance to support the effective operation of the Finance department and alignment with organizational priorities.

What You Bring

• Bachelor of Commerce degree, or equivalent.
• Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation (or in final stages of completion).
• Two (2) years' supervisory experience in an accounting department.
• Five (5) years' experience managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and benefit administration, preferably in the not-for-profit/charity sector.
• Knowledge of funder reporting requirements a strong asset.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and accounting software including Sage Intacct, Sage 300 and APA, Ceridian Dayforce, and ADP.
• Familiarity with CRA legislation and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Familiarity with the Mental Healthcare Sector and Supportive Housing.
