Job description

At Baker Tilly, we are committed to identifying and connecting skilled financial professionals with organizations that make a difference. We are excited to work with the Diocese of Islands and Inlets in their search for a Finance Director who will guide the financial health of their institution.

In this pivotal role, you will provide seasoned leadership, business acumen, and financial expertise for the Diocese. If you're looking to combine your financial expertise with a meaningful mission, we want to hear from you.

The Finance Director is responsible for the management and implementation of fiscal policies and procedures, accounting operations, financial reporting, audits, and internal fiscal controls.

Key responsibilities include:

  • FINANCIAL STATEMENTS: Producing reliable, accurate, and timely financial statements reflecting the standing and performance of the diocese, the refugee fund, the Synod office, trust funds, and a consolidated view of the organization.
  • MANAGEMENT: Managing effectively the workflow, projects, and staff members associated with the finance function.
  • ADMINISTRATION: Providing day-to-day management/monitoring of the cash position, banking, investing, and lending relationships of the diocese.
  • FINANCIAL CONTROLS: Establishing and maintaining a control framework in coordination with the Finance Committee and the Treasurer, to ensure that there are appropriate oversight processes, written procedures consistent with policy, reliable reporting, and review of financial activities.
  • COMMUNICATION and ADVICE: Responding to queries from, providing advice to, and maintaining working relationships with various stakeholders.
  • STRATEGIC PLANNING AND LEADERSHIP: Providing strategic analysis and recommendations on the prudent and effective deployment of financial resources.

Education:

Postsecondary education in accounting, financial management, business administration, or equivalent is required. CPA designation preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of five years’ experience working in a financial management capacity, preferably within a church or other faith organization, or not-for-profit organization.
  • Expertise in managing all financial aspects including budgeting, monthly reporting, and annual audits.
  • Sound understanding of human resource management policy and procedure, compensation, employment law and benefit program administration would be an asset.
