The ROLE

Please note that this is a Contract position for 2 years, starting in July 2025.

Financial Leadership & Oversight

• Lead budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and audit preparation
• Ensure compliance with CRA, federal, and provincial nonprofit regulations
• Advise on financial strategy, risk management, and long-term sustainability

Team Management & Systems Optimization

• Mentor the Finance Manager and build internal financial capacity
• Oversee payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and monthly close processes
• Strengthen internal controls, reporting systems, and financial practices

Board & Regulatory Reporting

• Prepare and present the financial reports for the Board and Finance Committee
• Lead the audit process and maintain strong relationships with auditors
• Ensure compliance with all reporting requirements for the agency and foundation

Leadership Support

• Provide financial insights to senior leadership to guide operational decisions
• Support strategic planning, scenario modelling, and performance measurement
• Align financial strategies with organizational goals

Financial Acumen & Culture Building

• Enhance financial literacy among leadership and management teams
• Deliver training and tools to support budget ownership and financial decision-making
• Promote a culture of transparency, accountability, and financial stewardship

Qualifications

Education

• CPA designation (required)
• Post-secondary degree in Finance, Accounting, or related discipline

Experience

• 10+ years of progressive financial management experience
• Minimum 5 years in a nonprofit or charitable environment
• Experience with foundation fund management (preferred)

Technical & Core Skills

• Proficient in Sage and Microsoft Excel
• Strong knowledge of Canadian nonprofit financial standards
• Excellent analytical, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to distill complex financial data into accessible insights

Other Requirements

• Flexibility to work occasional evenings for board or committee meetings
• Current (within 3 months) criminal reference check
