Job summary

Leavitt Machinery seeks a Field Technician (Forklift or Heavy Equipment Mechanic) to join the Ottawa service team. You will diagnose, repair, and maintain a variety of material handling equipment, ensuring timely completion of service jobs and clear communication with customers.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of heavy equipment repair experience, 2+ years on aerial platforms, and a valid driver’s license. Onsite role with competitive pay and benefits in Ottawa, Ontario.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of heavy equipment repair experience
• 2+ years aerial platform and lift truck experience
• Experience with hydraulics and diagnosing electric engines is a strong asset
• Provincial Heavy Duty or Automotive Journeyperson’s ticket or Red Seal is an asset
• Strong communication with customers and internal stakeholders
• Excellent problem-solving and willingness to learn
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer sites
• French language skills are an asset but not required

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair, and perform routine maintenance and safety inspections on material handling equipment and machinery
• Communicate with the Service Dispatcher about ongoing jobs and complete tasks on time
• Discuss service details with customers and clarify repair scope and requirements
• Coordinate with Parts to order and prep parts before visiting sites
• Maintain proper documentation (work orders, warranty paperwork)
• Report safety incidents promptly and adhere to safety policies

The Opportunity

Leavitt Machinery is looking for a mechanically inclined Field Technician (Forklift or Heavy Equipment Mechanic) to join our Service team in Ottawa, Ontario. Reporting to the Service Manager, the Field Technician will be assigned to a variety of machinery repair tasks required by our loyal customers.

As a Field Technician your key responsibilities will include:

• Diagnosing, repairing, and completing routine maintenance and safety inspections on a variety of material handling equipment and machinery
• Maintaining effective and consistent communication with the Service Dispatcher regarding ongoing Service jobs, and completing assigned tasks in a timely manner
• Discussing Service job details with customers and communicating a clear understanding of the job scope and repair requirements
• Communicating with the Parts department via phone and email to ensure required parts are ordered, and preparing required parts before visiting job sites
• Maintaining proper documentation where needed, including work order forms and warranty paperwork
• Reporting any safety incidents promptly and adhering to all safety policies

Required Skills & Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills, knowledge, and competencies:

• At least 5 years of heavy equipment repair experience in a related industry
• At least 2 years of previous aerial platform and lift truck experience
• Experience with hydraulics and diagnosing and servicing electric engines is a strong asset
• Provincial Heavy Duty or Automotive Journeyperson’s ticket or a Relevant Red Seal Trade Certification is an asset
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to partner effectively with external customers and internal stakeholders
• Excellent problem-solving skills and strong aptitude for learning and applying mechanical and technical concepts
• Strong work ethic and a positive attitude
• High school diploma
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer sites in the region is required
• French language skills would be an asset but not required

The base pay range for this role is: $35.00 to $41.00 per hour, depending on experience.

This is an onsite role based in Ottawa, Ontario.
