Job summary

Leavitt Machinery is seeking a Field Technician (Forklift or Heavy Equipment Mechanic) to join our Service team in Coquitlam, BC. You will diagnose, repair, and maintain a range of material handling equipment at customer sites and our shop, reporting to the Service Manager.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of repair experience, a Red Seal or Journeyperson ticket, hydraulic and engine diagnostics knowledge, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of heavy equipment repair experience in a related industry.
• Provincial Heavy Duty Journeyperson’s ticket or a Red Seal is a strong asset.
• Experience with hydraulics and diagnosing and servicing electric engines is a strong asset.
• Previous aerial platform and lift truck experience an asset.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with customers and internal teams.
• Excellent problem solving and a strong learning aptitude.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer sites in the region.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair, and complete routine maintenance and safety inspections on material handling equipment.
• Maintain communication with the Service Dispatcher regarding ongoing jobs and complete tasks promptly.
• Discuss service job details with customers and clarify repair requirements.
• Coordinate with Parts to order and prep required parts before visits.
• Maintain proper documentation including work orders and warranty paperwork.
• Report safety incidents and adhere to safety policies.

The Opportunity

Leavitt Machinery is looking for a mechanically skilled Field Technician (Forklift or Heavy Equipment Mechanic) to join our Service team in Coquitlam, British Columbia. Reporting to the Service Manager, the Field Technician will be assigned to a variety of machinery repair tasks required by our loyal customers.

As a Field Technician your key responsibilities will include:

• Diagnosing, repairing, and completing routine maintenance and safety inspections on a variety of material handling equipment and machinery
• Maintaining effective and consistent communication with the Service Dispatcher regarding ongoing Service jobs, and completing assigned tasks in a timely manner
• Discussing Service job details with customers and communicating a clear understanding of the job scope and repair requirements
• Communicating with the Parts department via phone and email to ensure required parts are ordered, and preparing required parts before visiting job sites
• Maintaining proper documentation where needed, including work order forms and warranty paperwork
• Reporting any safety incidents promptly and adhering to all safety policies

Required Skills & Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills, knowledge, and competencies:

• At least 5 years of heavy equipment repair experience in a related industry
• Provincial Heavy Duty Journeyperson’s ticket or a Relevant Red Seal Trade Certification is a strong asset
• Experience with hydraulics and diagnosing and servicing electric engines is a strong asset
• Previous aerial platform and lift truck experience an asset
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to partner effectively with external customers and internal stakeholders
• Excellent problem-solving skills and strong aptitude for learning and applying mechanical and technical concepts
• Strong work ethic and a positive attitude
• High school diploma
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer sites in the region is required

The base pay range for this role is: $46.11 to $53.35 depending on experience and certifications.

This is an onsite role based in Coquitlam, British Columbia.
