Job summary

Leavitt Machinery is seeking a mechanically inclined Field Technician (Heavy Equipment or Automotive Mechanic) to join the Service team in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Reporting to the Service Manager, you will handle a variety of machinery repair tasks for loyal customers.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of heavy equipment or automotive repair experience, a Journeyperson ticket or Red Seal, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of heavy equipment or automotive repair experience.
• Provincial Heavy Duty or Automotive Journeyperson’s ticket or a Red Seal is required/spreferred.
• Experience with hydraulics and diagnosing/servicing electric engines is a strong asset.
• Aerial platform and lift truck experience is an asset.
• Strong communication with customers and internal teams.
• Excellent problem-solving and willingness to learn technical concepts.
• Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
• High school diploma and valid driver’s license; travel to customer sites.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair, and perform routine maintenance and safety inspections on material handling equipment.
• Communicate with the Service Dispatcher about ongoing jobs and complete tasks timely.
• Discuss job details with customers and confirm repair requirements.
• Coordinate with Parts to order and prepare needed parts before site visits.
• Maintain documentation like work orders and warranty paperwork.
• Report safety incidents promptly and follow safety policies.

The Opportunity

Leavitt Machinery is looking for a mechanically-inclined Field Technician (Heavy Equipment or Automotive Mechanic) to join our Service team in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Reporting to the Service Manager, the Field Technician will be assigned to a variety of machinery repair tasks required by our loyal customers.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

As a Field Technician your key responsibilities will include:

• Diagnosing, repairing, and completing routine maintenance and safety inspections on a variety of material handling equipment and machinery
• Maintaining effective and consistent communication with the Service Dispatcher regarding ongoing Service jobs, and completing assigned tasks in a timely manner
• Discussing Service job details with customers and communicating a clear understanding of the job scope and repair requirements
• Communicating with the Parts department via phone and email to ensure required parts are ordered, and preparing required parts before visiting job sites
• Maintaining proper documentation where needed, including work order forms and warranty paperwork
• Reporting any safety incidents promptly and adhering to all safety policies

Required Skills & Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills, knowledge, and competencies:

• At least 5 years of heavy equipment or automotive repair experience in a related industry
• Provincial Heavy Duty or Automotive Journeyperson’s ticket or a Relevant Red Seal Trade Certification
• Experience with hydraulics and diagnosing and servicing electric engines is a strong asset
• Previous aerial platform and lift truck experience is an asset
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to partner effectively with external customers and internal stakeholders
• Excellent problem-solving skills and strong aptitude for learning and applying mechanical and technical concepts
• Strong work ethic and a positive attitude
• High school diploma
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer sites in the region

The base pay range for this role is: $33.79 to $43.00 per hour, depending on experience.

This is an onsite role based in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
