Job summary

Leavitt Machinery is seeking a skilled Field Technician (Heavy Equipment or Automotive) to join the Service team in Kitimat, British Columbia. This fly-in/fly-out role operates on a two-weeks-on, two-weeks-off schedule, with work primarily in Northwest BC and the Prince Rupert area.

You will diagnose, repair, and maintain a variety of material handling equipment, communicating effectively with customers and internal teams.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of heavy equipment or automotive repair experience.
• Provincial Red Seal trade certification (Heavy Duty or Automotive) required.
• Experience with hydraulics and diagnosing electrical engines is a strong asset.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair, and perform maintenance and safety inspections on material handling equipment.
• Maintain clear communication with the Service Dispatcher about ongoing jobs.
• Discuss service job details with customers to confirm scope and repair requirements.
• Coordinate parts with the Parts department and prep parts before site visits.
• Maintain accurate work orders and warranty paperwork.
• Report safety incidents and adhere to company safety policies.

The Opportunity

Leavitt Machinery is looking for a skilled Red Seal Field Technician (Heavy Equipment or Automotive) to join our Service team in Kitimat, British Columbia. Reporting to the Branch Manager, the Field Technician will be responsible for a variety of machinery repair and maintenance tasks for our customers. This is a fly-in/fly-out (FIFO) position with a rotating two-weeks-on, two-weeks-off schedule. Work will primarily take place in Northwest British Columbia, with most work performed in the Prince Rupert area.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Diagnosing, repairing, and completing routine maintenance and safety inspections on a variety of material handling equipment and machinery.
• Maintaining effective and consistent communication with the Service Dispatcher regarding ongoing service jobs and completing assigned tasks in a timely manner.
• Discussing service job details with customers and ensuring a clear understanding of the job scope and repair requirements.
• Communicating with the Parts department by phone and email to ensure required parts are ordered and preparing the necessary parts before visiting customer job sites.
• Maintaining accurate documentation as required, including work order forms and warranty paperwork.
• Promptly reporting safety incidents and adhering to all company safety policies and procedures.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• At least 5 years of heavy equipment or automotive repair experience in a related industry.
• Provincial Heavy Duty or Automotive Journeyperson certification with a relevant Red Seal trade certification.
• Experience with hydraulics and diagnosing and servicing electric engines is a strong asset.
• Previous aerial platform and lift truck experience is an asset.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with external customers and internal stakeholders.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong aptitude for learning and applying mechanical and technical concepts.
• A strong work ethic and positive attitude.
• High school diploma.
• Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to customer sites throughout the region.

The base pay range for this role is $46.11 to $53.35 per hour, depending on experience and certifications.

This is an onsite, fly-in/fly-out role based in Kitimat, British Columbia, with a rotating two-weeks-on, two-weeks-off schedule. Work will primarily be performed in Northwest BC, particularly the Prince Rupert area.
