Job description

Jenoptik is expanding its Canadian operations and is seeking intermediate-level Field Service Technicians in Metro Vancouver to support the deployment, maintenance, and technical service for a new large-scale infrastructure program in British Columbia.

This is a hands-on field role. Technicians work primarily outdoors in all weather conditions, performing installations, calibration, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs across multiple areas in the region, with occasional warehouse duties such as equipment assembly, testing, and inventory management.

This is a ground-floor opportunity on a growing program: as the deployment expands, so do opportunities for advancement into senior technical and lead roles. Ideal candidates bring a few years of hands-on technical field experience, work well independently, and take pride in reliable, high-quality work. Due to the nature of the program, further project details will be shared with candidates during the interview process.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO):
  • Install, calibrate, and maintain electronic sensor and digital imaging systems mounted on poles and roadside infrastructure.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance to maximize system uptime, including cleaning, inspection, testing, and replacement of worn or damaged components.
  • Diagnose and repair faults across mechanical, electrical (120V), and electronic components in the field.
  • Assemble and configure equipment, cabinets, and wiring (terminal blocks, power, and connectivity) prior to installation.
  • Conduct site surveys for new locations and assist with system commissioning and verification.
  • Operate company vehicles, including bucket/crane trucks where qualified, for elevated installations.
Technical, Data & Compliance Duties
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and secure handling of system data with complete accuracy, following established procedures and quality checklists.
  • Maintain accurate site maintenance, service, and inventory records using company-provided mobile applications.
  • Ensure systems remain operational and compliant with contractual and regulatory requirements.
  • Work in a structured, transparent, and auditable manner; elevate issues with sound judgment.
  • Follow all health and safety protocols, including traffic management procedures when working near live roadways.
  • Care for company-provided assets, including vehicle, tools, laptop, and phone.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist with warehouse operations: equipment preparation, bench testing, packaging, labelling, and logistics coordination.
  • Travel occasionally for technical training or to support other programs.
  • Support and coach junior technicians as the local team grows.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
  • 2–5 years of experience in a technical field service role: troubleshooting and repairing electronic components, power and connectivity wiring, and/or computer hardware.
  • Able to work fully independently in the field after training, with remote support.
  • Basic electrical (120V), electronics, and computer skills for configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency with Windows and standard office software (Word, Excel, email).
  • Valid BC driver's licence (Class 5) with a clean driving record; comfortable operating large vehicles. A driving assessment is required prior to a job offer.
  • Physically able to work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions; comfortable with early morning start times.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Reliable, self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and committed to safety and operational excellence.
Desired Skills
  • Experience with digital photography, optics, or imaging technology.
  • Experience with intelligent transportation systems (ITS), traffic signals, telecom, or similar roadside infrastructure.
  • Bucket truck or crane truck operating experience.
  • BC Traffic Control Person (TCP) certification, or willingness to obtain.
  • Post‑secondary training in electronics, electrical, or a related technical trade.
REGULATORY & COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Clean criminal record (police background check required).
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada (Canadian citizenship or qualified Canadian worker).
  • Adherence to the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and BC's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
  • Vacancy status: Active, open position
  • Please note: candidates must reside in the greater Vancouver area or surrounding cities for consideration.
  • Please note: AI is not used in the screening process or to assess candidates
  • Confidentiality agreement required due to the sensitive nature of the program.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
  • $30.00 – $36.00 per hour, commensurate with experience (approximately $62,000 – $75,000 annually).
  • Company vehicle, tools, phone, and laptop provided for work use.
  • Paid technical training and certification support.
  • Clear advancement path into senior technician and lead roles as the program expands.
