Job summary

Sécheron SA is seeking a Field Service Technician to support our service organization in Canada, focusing on preventive and corrective maintenance, commissioning, and retrofits for DC switchgear and power conversion systems in the rail industry.

The role requires hands-on technical ability, strong customer focus, and willingness to travel domestically up to 80% with occasional international trips. Montreal-based with opportunities to visit customer sites worldwide.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or relevant technical experience.
  • Minimum 3+ years field service experience in electrical equipment.
  • Familiarity with DC power systems (Low/Medium up to 3 kV).
  • OSHA safety training and CPR/First Aid certification.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure efficient service delivery to customers in Canada and globally when needed.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on Sécheron equipment at customer sites.
  • Implement retrofits and modernization projects with internal teams and customers.
  • Supervise installation, testing, commissioning and customer trainings on Sécheron equipment.
  • Audit existing equipment and prepare technical intervention reports.
  • Repair activities at Montreal facilities.
  • Support Sales on site surveys, quotations, and customer access permissions.
  • Identify and propose new service opportunities during customer visits (spares, on-site services, retrofits, trainings).
  • Provide technical support on DC products including switchgear, rectifiers, and power converters.

Job description

Do you have experience with custom electro-mechanical solutions or a passion for the electrified rail industry? This Field Service Technician role is your opportunity to join a globally recognized manufacturer specialized in DC switchgear, power conversion systems, and traction power solutions for the rail industry.

This dynamic role contains Field Service activities such as preventive & corrective maintenance, retrofits and commissioning activities, making it ideal for those with hands-on attitude, and a clear customer focus.

We're looking for an all-rounder who can support our service organization in Canada. This will require you to collaborate with internal teams and our customers. If you're technically solid, like to travel and have a clear customer focus, we'd love to hear from you.

Main Tasks
  • Ensure the efficient performance of services delivered to our customers in Canada and occasionally worldwide;
  • Execute preventive and corrective maintenance activities at customer facilities according to Sécheron standards;
  • Implement retrofits and modernization projects in collaboration with internal teams and customers;
  • Provide supervision of installation, testing, commissioning and occasionally customer trainings on Sécheron equipment;
  • Execute audits of existing equipment;
  • Performing repairs at the company's facilities in Montreal;
  • Elaboration of technical intervention reports and templates;
  • Support to Sales Engineer on substation surveys and permissions to site access;
  • Support Sales team with the elaboration of repair quotations;
  • Promote proactively new service centered business opportunities during customer visits, such as spare parts sales, repairs, on-site services, retrofits, trainings, etc.;
  • Provide support on DC products, including:
  • DC switchgear, high-speed breakers, and panels;
  • Rectifiers, power converters, and voltage limiting devices;
  • Multi-function protection relays and custom electro-mechanical solutions;
  • Support on the management of stock of spare parts and tools.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering; or relevant technical experience will also be considered;
  • Minimum requirement: High school diploma or GED combined with industry experience;
  • Field Service background in the field of installation, testing and maintenance of electrical equipment with custom electro-mechanical solutions;
  • Prior experience in power distribution, switchgear manufacturing, or similar roles (3+ years preferred);
  • Familiarity with DC power systems (Low Voltage and Medium Voltage up to 3kV);
  • Safety training and certification including OSHA card, current basic first aid and CPR certification;
  • Systematic way of working, hand-on approach;
  • Strong customer orientation, good communication skills and the ability to move within the customer organization;
  • Self-motivated, team-oriented, and adaptable in complex technical environments;
  • Ability to analyze technical requirements and create clear, accurate solutions;
  • Domestic travel: up to 80%;
  • Occasional international travel.
