ABB in Edmonton, Alberta is seeking an experienced Field Service Technician to deliver high-quality technical support and services for high, medium, and low voltage power systems. You will lead field service projects, perform testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and installations, and maintain strong customer relationships.

The role requires significant travel (local and national up to 50%) and a hands-on, safety-focused mindset with leadership capabilities to guide teams and deliver

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience servicing high/medium/low voltage power equipment.
  • Ability to travel locally and nationally up to 50% of the time.
  • Engineering degree or technologist certification.
  • Experience with testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, repairs and installations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert field service support for high, medium, and low voltage power systems, including testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, upgrades, retrofits, and installations.
  • Lead Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) activities at customer sites and report unsafe practices and incidents.
  • Identify service opportunities in collaboration with customers and ABB teams, develop work scopes and estimates.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships and collaborate with sales teams to expand the customer base.

You will be delivering innovative power solutions, working on field service projects, and building lasting customer partnerships.The work model for the role is: HybridThis role is contributing to the Electrification Field Service Team in Edmonton Alberta.This role reports to: Field Service ManagerResponsibilities:Applying safety rules and safe practices, as well as environmental responsibilities during all service activities.Leading Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) activities at customer sites and reporting unsafe practices and incidents to ensure a safe working environment.Identifying new service business opportunities in close cooperation with customers and ABB teams.Working with technicians and engineers developing, mentoring, and providing technical guidance to clients.Provide expert field service support for high, medium, and low voltage power systems, including testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, upgrades, retrofits, and installations.Apply strong technical knowledge of transformers, switchgear, protection and control systems, and power distribution equipment; experience with relays, GIS, and SF6 systems is an asset.Lead and execute service projects safely and efficiently, developing work scopes, supporting estimates, and delivering projects on time, within budget, and to quality standards.Coordinate and direct team activities while driving productivity, operational excellence, and continuous improvement through process standardization and cost reduction initiatives.Build and maintain strong customer relationships, identify service growth opportunities, and collaborate closely with sales teams to expand the customer base and support business objectives.Utilize strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and business acumen to develop practical power system solutions while ensuring customer satisfaction and profitability.Qualifications:5+ years of experience servicing, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, repairing, upgrading, and installing high, medium, and low voltage power distribution equipment.Strong expertise in electrical power systems, including switchgear, transformers, protection and control systems, with relay testing and commissioning considered a strong asset.Ability to travel locally and nationally 50% of the time, work overtime/weekends and respond to weekend and off-hours service requests as requiredProven ability to safely lead and execute field service projects, ensuring compliance with electrical safety standards and environmental protection procedures.Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to independently manage projects, and deliver work on time, on budget, and to high quality standards.Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting capabilities for complex power delivery equipment and systems.Proficient in interpreting and developing technical documentation, procedures, electrical drawings, and service work scopes.Experienced in using power system testing equipment and applying industry-standard testing and commissioning procedures.Excellent customer relationship management, business development, and sales support skills, with a focus on identifying service opportunities and delivering value-added solutions.Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities, with proven success building collaborative relationships with customers, sales teams, and internal stakeholders.Engineer or Certified Electrical Technologist with strong computer skills, a customer-focused and entrepreneurial mindset, and willingness to travel extensively while responding to urgent service needs.Why ABB?We empower you to take initiative, challenge ideas, and lead with confidence.
