Job summary

Total Power Limited in Edmonton, AB is seeking a Generator Field Service Technician to perform emergency service, preventive maintenance, and repairs on customer generators.

The role requires hands-on electrical troubleshooting, transfer switch programming, and strong customer communication. A valid AB driver's license and power generation qualifications are preferred, with local travel across Alberta anticipated.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years' experience as generator field service technician.
• College-level Power Generation Diploma, Certified Mechanic with electrical skills, or Licensed Electrician preferred.
• A valid AB driver's license in good standing.
• Working knowledge of DC/AC electrical systems.
• Mechanical, engine and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Superior customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform emergency service, maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting for customer generators.
• Test, measure, and verify electrical components and energized components.
• Program, test, and connect transfer switches.
• Test and troubleshoot generator sets and synchronizing controls.
• Conduct startups and load bank tests.
• Operate diesel- or natural gas-powered gensets.
• Build strong customer relationships and maintain parts inventory.
• Communicate with the supervisor on service aspects.
• Complete service and equipment performance reports.

Job description

• Test, measure, and verify electrical component operations, including energized components and electrical fields.
• Program, test, and connect transfer switches.
• Program, test, and trouble shoot both generators set and synchronizing controls system.
• Conduct startups and load bank tests as required.
• Operate / diagnose engine driven gensets powered by diesel or natural gas.
• Build strong customer relationships by engaging in positive, professional communications.
• Maintain all company tools and materials, including an accurate inventory of parts.
• Communicate with the Supervisor on all aspects of service.
• Complete required service and equipment performance reports as required.

What You'll Do - The Role

What You Need

• A valid AB driver's license in good standing.
• Working knowledge of D/C and A/C electrical systems.
• Mechanical, engine, and electrical trouble shooting skills.
• Superior customer service skills and track record.
• Professional verbal and written communication skills.
• Comfortable using MS Office suite including Outlook suite.
• Strong time management skills.
• The ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision.

Working Conditions

• After hours On-Call - Required
• Heavy lifting and physical exertion is required
• Ability to work irregular hours / overtime
• Full time position plus approved OT
• Willing to work locally and throughout the Province of Alberta
• Occasional travel will be required. A valid passport and ability to enter the US for factory training may be required on occasion.
• In the case of a power outage or declared State of Emergency by any level of Government, be available for work.
