Job summary

Total Power Limited in Calgary, Alberta is seeking an experienced Generator Field Service Technician. The role involves emergency service, preventative maintenance, and complex troubleshooting of generator systems across customer sites.

You will program and test transfer switches, startups, and load bank tests, while maintaining tools and reporting on service details. Strong customer service, communications skills, and a valid driver’s license are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a generator field service technician.
• Diploma or certification in power generation or electrical trades preferred.
• Valid driver’s license in good standing and willingness to travel within Alberta.

Responsibilities

• Perform emergency service, preventative maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, and instruction for customer generators.
• Test, measure, and verify electrical component operations (energized components and electrical fields).
• Program, test, and connect transfer switches.
• Program, test, and troubleshoot generator sets and synchronizing controls.
• Conduct startups and load bank tests as required.
• Operate and diagnose engine-driven gensets powered by diesel or natural gas.
• Build strong customer relationships through professional communication.
• Maintain all tools and materials, including inventory of parts.
• Communicate with Supervisor on all aspects of service and complete service reports.

• Operate / diagnose engine driven gensets powered by diesel or natural gas.
• Build strong customer relationships by engaging in positive, professional communications.
• Maintain all company tools and materials, including an accurate inventory of parts.
• Communicate with the Supervisor on all aspects of service.
• Complete required service and equipment performance reports as required.

What You Need

• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a generator field service technician.
• College-level Power Generation Diploma, Certified Mechanic with electrical skills or Licensed Electrician with mechanical skills preferred.
• A valid driver's license in good standing.
• Working knowledge of D/C and A/C electrical systems.
• Mechanical, engine, and electrical trouble shooting skills.
• Superior customer service skills and track record.
• Professional verbal and written communication skills.
• Comfortable using MS Office suite including Outlook suite.
• The ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision.

Working Conditions

• After hours On-Call – Required
• Heavy lifting and physical exertion is required
• Ability to work irregular hours / overtime
• Full time position plus approved OT
• Willing to work locally and throughout the Province of Alberta
• Occasional travel will be required. A valid passport and ability to enter the US for factory training may be required on occasion.
• In the case of a power outage or declared State of Emergency by any level of Government, be available for work.
