Job description

We are seeking an experienced Field Service Representative with a strong technical background in electrical power systems, protective relaying, testing, commissioning, and field troubleshooting.

The successful candidate will have experience working with medium- and low-voltage electrical systems, including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, CTs/PTs, and protective relay systems.

This position is well suited to an Electrical Engineer, Electrical Engineering Technologist, Electrical Technologist, or Power Systems Technician with significant hands-on field service experience.

The Field Service Representative will independently execute field service projects, troubleshoot complex electrical systems, support commissioning activities, provide technical leadership to junior personnel, and maintain strong relationships with customers and site stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced electrical testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and diagnostic activities at customer facilities.
  • Test, program, troubleshoot, and interpret results from microprocessor-based protective relays.
  • Work with protective relay platforms including SEL, GE Multilin, Basler, and similar systems.
  • Perform testing and commissioning of transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, CTs, PTs, and associated electrical distribution equipment.
  • Conduct advanced diagnostic testing, including Doble testing, SFRA, oil sampling/DGA, and related electrical equipment assessments.
  • Execute electrical switching, isolation, and clearance procedures in accordance with applicable safety requirements.
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical circuits and medium- and low-voltage power systems.
  • Diagnose field issues and determine appropriate corrective actions or escalation paths.
  • Support commissioning, start-up, maintenance, retrofit, modernization, and equipment upgrade projects.
  • Independently coordinate routine and moderately complex field service projects from initiation through completion.
  • Oversee installation and commissioning activities and ensure work is completed in accordance with project requirements.
  • Prepare accurate and detailed technical reports, test documentation, and service records.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and training to junior field service personnel.
  • Maintain test equipment, tools, vehicles, and other assigned assets.
  • Coordinate project materials and support field installation requirements.
  • Participate in a 24-hour emergency response rotation as required.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with customers and site personnel.
  • Complete required timesheets, expenses, project documentation, and other administrative requirements.
  • Ensure all field activities are performed safely and in accordance with applicable procedures, standards, and regulations.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Technology, Power Systems, or a related discipline.
  • Alternatively, a Journeyman Electrician or Power System Electrician certification combined with substantial technical field service experience may be considered.
  • 5-10+ years of relevant electrical field service experience.
  • Strong experience with MV/LV electrical power systems.
  • Hands-on experience with protective relay testing, programming, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with microprocessor-based relays such as SEL, GE Multilin, Basler, or equivalent.
  • Experience with electrical testing and commissioning of transformers, switchgear, breakers, CTs, PTs, and related equipment.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting and diagnostic capabilities.
  • Experience performing or supporting electrical switching and system isolation procedures.
  • Ability to independently manage field assignments and resolve technical issues.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Willingness to travel to customer and project sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • NETA certification or equivalent electrical testing qualification.
  • Experience with Doble testing equipment and methodologies.
  • Experience with Omicron and Manta test sets.
  • Experience with SFRA testing.
  • Experience with transformer oil sampling and Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA).
  • Experience with SF6 equipment.
  • Experience with electrical equipment retrofits, modernization, and upgrades.
  • QA/QC experience within electrical testing, commissioning, or industrial projects.
  • Previous leadership, project coordination, or field supervision experience.
  • Experience working in oil & gas, mining, power generation, industrial, or commercial facilities.
