Job summary

Tridon Communications in Calgary, AB, is seeking an experienced OSP Fiber Splicer Technician to install, splice, test, and maintain fiber optic networks in industrial environments. This hands-on field role requires proven skills in fusion splicing and system verification, with a strong safety mindset and ability to interpret drawings and project specs.

You will perform end-to-end fiber builds, document results, mentor apprentices, and coordinate with clients and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of hands-on experience installing, splicing, testing, and maintaining OSP fiber networks.
• Experience in industrial, mining, or oil sands environments.
• Proficient with fusion splicers and EXFO testing equipment (OTDRs, Power Meters, IOLM, FastReporter).
• Strong ability to read and interpret telecommunications drawings and specifications.
• Fiber optic certifications or equivalent training preferred; combinations of training and hands-on work will be considered.
• Legally authorized to work in Canada; valid driver’s license with clean record; pre‑access drug/alcohol testing may be required.

Responsibilities

• Install, prepare, splice, terminate, and maintain fiber optic cable (single/multi-mode).
• Perform fusion splicing for new installations and repairs.
• Test, certify, and troubleshoot fiber systems using industry equipment.
• Diagnose and repair faults; complete end-to-end fiber builds with documentation.
• Read splice diagrams, cable schedules, and project specs; ensure client standards are met.
• Mentor apprentices and junior technicians; liaise with clients and project stakeholders.
• Adhere to safety policies and adjust to project-site conditions.
