Job summary

A leading telecommunications provider in Ontario is looking for a reliable Fibre Splicer Technician to join their team. Job Information

Pentagon Group is currently seeking to hire responsible and reliable Fibre Splicer Technicians. The ideal candidates are individuals with minimum 3 years of fibre splicing experience, who enjoy working outdoors and who are not afraid of physical labour.

Responsibilities
  • Splice and test fiber optic cables in all outside plant applications – aerial, burial and confined spaces, on both newly placed and existing cables.
  • Analyze test results and can troubleshoot and correct any faults or defects.
  • Interpret and understand placing and splicing work plans.
  • Read and interpret work plans or job specifications to execute all work assigned safely and in accordance with the Company Health and Safety policy.
  • Work outdoors in various conditions to place copper, coax or fiber optic telecommunication cables.
  • Operate a variety of construction equipment to assist in the installation of telecommunication cables and apparatuses.
  • Clean and maintain tools, equipment and maintain sufficient stock levels.
  • Accurately record and report project progress to the appropriate supervisory person and communicate any issues or expected delays.
  • Climb poles, ladders, bucket truck and work at heights up to and exceeding 30 feet.
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of splicing experience.
  • Able to complete the necessary training for First Aid, working at heights and confined space, pass the corresponding examinations and receive a client authorization number as required.
  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to interpret placing and splicing plans.
  • Competency in OTDR and other testing protocol.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to health and safety and willing to receive applicable Health and Safety training as per legislative and job requirements.
  • Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check and a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Available to work evenings, weekends and on call when required.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements (bend, sit, lift, and stand for prolonged periods of time).
  • Commitment to a safe work culture.
