Job description

ROHL Global Networks Inc. is a diversified infrastructure company based in Western Canada, with expanding operations across North America. Originally established as a leading provider of telecommunications and utility infrastructure design and construction, ROHL has strategically grown into real estate development and management, solar energy systems, and power infrastructure, serving enterprise, government, and wholesale clients.

From building fiber optic and high-voltage systems to delivering solar farms and enabling AI-driven data centers and EV infrastructure, ROHL plays a critical role in powering the future of Canada's built environment.

Our network team is growing, and we're looking for experienced Fiber Splicer/Network Technicians who are ready to hit the ground running, splicing and restoring fiber in the field one day and keeping our 1,200 km fiber network, head office, and remote points of presence (PoPs) powered and performing the next. If you enjoy hands‑on work, thrive on solving problems under pressure, and want to see your work keep communities connected, we'd love to hear from you.

The Role

This hands-on role combines two core areas of work: fiber splicing and network maintenance. Responsibilities span both outside plant (OSP) and inside plant (ISP) environments, including fiber splicing and testing, underground locates, optical equipment installation, network troubleshooting and preventative maintenance, and DC power plant maintenance.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working across the full physical layer of a fiber network- from supporting new fiber builds and project installations in the field, to maintaining, repairing, and optimizing our existing network infrastructure and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform fiber optic splicing (fusion and mechanical) on aerial, underground, and buried fiber infrastructure
  • Test and certify fiber links using OTDR, power meters, and light sources; interpret and document results
  • Terminate and test fiber patch panels, distribution frames, and cross-connects
  • Read and interpret FTTH/OSP design documentation, splice diagrams, and route maps (e.g., KMZ/GIS-based designs)
  • Troubleshoot and restore fiber cuts and outside plant faults, including emergency/after-hours response
Network Maintenance Responsibilities:

Network Equipment

  • Install, configure, and maintain optical transmission equipment (OLT, ONT, DWDM/CWDM, media converters, etc.)
  • Perform equipment rack installations, cable management, and labeling to company standards
  • Support commissioning and acceptance testing for new equipment and network builds
  • Maintain and troubleshoot DC power plants, rectifiers, and battery backup systems supporting network equipment
  • Perform routine inspections, load testing, and preventive maintenance on power infrastructure
  • Identify and safely resolve electrical faults within scope of certification/license
  • Ensure power plant work complies with applicable electrical codes and regulatory standards

Locates and Field Support

  • Perform underground utility locates
  • Coordinate with locate services, contractors, and municipalities as required for civil work near the fiber network
  • Collect GPS data for network civil works
General Responsibilities:
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, test results, and as-built documentation
  • Follow all safety protocols for working at heights, confined spaces, live electrical systems, and traffic control
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for network emergency response
  • Collaborate with network engineering, planning, and security teams as needed
  • Travel and long stays away from home on projects possible
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, climb ladders/poles, and work in confined underground vaults
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
What You Bring
  • Minimum 3 years of hands‑on experience in fiber optic splicing, testing, and troubleshooting is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience installing, commissioning, and troubleshooting optical transmission equipment.
  • Practical experience working with DC power systems, including rectifiers, batteries, and distribution systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of fiber optic test equipment, including OTDRs, optical power meters, and fault‑locating tools.
  • Experience with FTTH network design and documentation, including KMZ and/or GIS-based tools, is considered an asset.
  • Fiber optic splicing certification or recognized industry training is considered an asset.
  • Electrical trade certification or licence appropriate to the applicable jurisdiction is considered an asset.
