Job summary

Shermco Canada is seeking a Protection & Control Technician III to test, commission, maintain, and troubleshoot complex protection systems in the field across British Columbia. You will lead assigned field activities and provide guidance to junior technicians while working closely with customers and项目 stakeholders to ensure safe, reliable operation.

The role requires extensive field travel across BC, with overtime during outages or commissioning projects and a strong focus on safety and quality

Qualifications

• Diploma or equivalent in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field.
• 3–7 years in protection and control testing, commissioning, or maintenance.
• Strong knowledge of protective relays, AC/DC schematics, relay logic, and protection principles.
• Experience commissioning transmission or distribution protection schemes.
• Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and customer communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Test, commission, maintain, and troubleshoot protection systems for various facilities.
• Perform relay testing and functional verification on microprocessor-based relays.
• Test protection schemes including line, transformer, bus, and generator schemes.
• Interpret schematics, relay logic, wiring diagrams, and protection philosophies.
• Analyze event reports, fault records, and sequence data.
• Troubleshoot SCADA, communications, and substation automation systems.
• Lead field activities during outages and commissioning projects.
• Prepare test procedures, technical reports, and corrective-action recommendations.
• Communicate findings to customers, engineering teams, and stakeholders.
• Review work and train junior technicians.
• Adhere to Shermco and safety requirements.
