Job summary

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is seeking an Educational Assistant to support students across cognition, communication, physical and social development. The role involves working under teacher guidance within ECS and collaboration with CST and other specialists.

The successful candidate will implement individual education plans, assist with literacy/numeracy, supervise students, and participate in activities aligned with student safety and well-being.

Qualifications

• Support students' growth in cognition, communication, physical and social development.
• Able to implement teacher directed programming and work with students at their level.
• Fluency with email, Internet and MS Office is expected.

Responsibilities

• Support and/or implement teacher directed programming.
• Collaborate with teacher, CST and multi-disciplinary team.
• Implement strategies from specialists (OT, PT, SLP, etc).
• Assist with literacy and numeracy efforts.
• Provide indoor and outdoor supervision as directed.
• Assist with safe transfer and positioning of students.
• Participate in swim programs if required.

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is looking for a full-time Educational Assistant in ECS.

Qualifications:

• Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma

Requirements:

• Support students' growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development
• Support and/or implement teacher directed programming
• Work collaborative under guidance of teacher, CST and other member of the multi-disciplinary team
• Implement specialist (OT, PT, SLP, etc) strategies to achieve required goals
• Able to work with student to implement and support literacy/numeracy
• Toileting routines if required
• Communicate effectively with students using age appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school specific behaviour strategies
• Work and play at student's physical level of their activities
• Swim program, if required
• Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe
• Physical ability to lift and move students
• Provide school directed indoor and outdoor student supervision

Employee is expected to work with behaviours related/associated with conduct, obsessive/compulsive, trauma and stress related, severe chronic depressive, feeding and/or eating disorders etc. Other behaviours related to ADHD, emotional/behavioural, learning and speech & language-related disabilities, etc may be encountered.

The successful candidate will be required to provide a Criminal Reference Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check. FMCSD will contact past and present employers for references. All FMCSD employees are expected to be computer literate; this includes fluency with e-mail, Internet and MS Office.
