Job summary

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is seeking a half-time Educational Assistant in ECS. The position supports students’ growth across cognition, communication, physical and social development and works under the guidance of teachers and the multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities include implementing teacher-directed programming, applying specialist strategies, and assisting with literacy/numeracy and daily routines as needed.

• Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma required.
• Ability to work with students with diverse needs.

Requirements

• Support students' growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development
• Support and/or implement teacher directed programming
• Work collaborative under guidance of teacher, CST and other member of the multi-disciplinary team
• Implement specialist (OT, PT, SLP, etc) strategies to achieve required goals
• Able to work with student to implement and support literacy/numeracy
• Toileting routines if required
• Communicate effectively with students using age appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school specific behaviour strategies
• Work and play at student's physical level of their activities
• Swim program, if required
• Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe
• Physical ability to lift and move students
• Provide school directed indoor and outdoor student supervision

Employee is expected to work with behaviours related/associated with conduct, obsessive/compulsive, trauma and stress related, severe chronic depressive, feeding and/or eating disorders etc. Other behaviours related to ADHD, emotional/behavioural, learning and speech & language-related disabilities, etc may be encountered.

The successful candidate will be required to provide a Criminal Reference Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check. FMCSD will contact past and present employers for references. All FMCSD employees are expected to be computer literate; this includes fluency with e-mail, Internet and MS Office.
