Job summary

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is seeking an Educational Assistant (EA 2) for a half-time role to support students in cognition, communication, physical and social development. The position operates 12.5–15.5 hours per week with an ASAP start date.

Responsibilities include supporting teacher-directed programming, collaborating with the CST and multidisciplinary team, and implementing strategies from specialists. A Criminal Reference Check is required prior to employment.

Qualifications:

• Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma

Requirements:

• Support students' growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development
• Support and/or implement teacher directed programming
• Work collaborative under guidance of teacher, CST and other member of the multi-disciplinary team
• Implement specialist (OT, PT, SLP, etc) strategies to achieve required goals
• Able to work with student to implement and support literacy/numeracy
• Toileting routines if required
• Communicate effectively with students using age appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school specific behaviour strategies
• Work and play at student's physical level of their activities
• Swim program, if required
• Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe
• Physical ability to lift and move students
• Provide school directed indoor and outdoor student supervision

Employee is expected to work with behaviours related/associated with conduct, obsessive/compulsive, trauma and stress related, severe chronic depressive, feeding and/or eating disorders etc. Other behaviours related to ADHD, emotional/behavioural, learning and speech & language-related disabilities, etc may be encountered.
