Job summary

Responsibilities

• Support students' growth in cognition, communication, physical and social development.
• Implement teacher-directed programming and adapt as needed.
• Collaborate with teachers, CST and multidisciplinary team.
• Implement strategies from specialists (OT, PT, SLP) to reach goals.
• Apply behaviour management and educational strategies to support learning.
• Communicate with students using positive reinforcement and school behaviour strategies.
• Monitor student behaviour and support safe learning.
• Provide supervision and assist with indoor/outdoor activities and swimming program.
• Use adaptive and learning technologies to support learning.
• Follow the Positive Behaviour Plan when required.
• Assist with medical procedures (catheter, feeding, diabetic monitoring) if needed.
• Support modified curriculum and ASD/complex needs.
• Physically assist and transfer students when necessary.

Requirements

• Support students' growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development
• Support and/or implement teacher directed programming
• Work collaborative under guidance of teacher, CST and members of a multi-disciplinary team
• Implement specialist (OT, PT, SLP, etc) strategies to achieve required goals
• Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate student learning
• Communicate effectively with students using age appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school specific behaviour strategies
• Observe student behaviour with focus on achieving positive behavioural/educational outcomes and mitigate/prevent negative ones
• Provide high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomes
• Work and play at student's physical level of their activities
• Provide support in use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programs
• Successfully implement the Positive Behaviour Plan(PBP), if required
• Medical Procedures - such as Catheter, Tube feeding, Feeding and swallowing support, or diabetic monitoring
• Able to understand, implement and support modified curriculum
• Able to work with and support students with Autism or complex medical needs
• Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe
• Physical ability to lift and move students
• Provide school directed indoor and outdoor student supervision
• Swim program
