Job summary

The Government of Nunavut invites applications for a Family Resource Worker who will support the Family Wellness office, working with CSSWs and community resources to coordinate prevention programs for families, children, youth, elders and the community.

The incumbent will operate largely in isolated communities, emphasizing family-centered practice, collaboration with Elders and school partners, and adherence to relevant legislation and safety initiatives.

Reporting to the Supervisor Family Wellness, the Family Resource Worker will work as a support to the Family Wellness office in close concert with the Community Social Services Worker (CSSW) and other community resources to coordinate prevention programs for families, children, youth, elders and the community as a whole. Much of the work done by the incumbent will be completed within isolated communities with limited support and services. The ability to work with and support other disciplines in promoting the overall well-being of both the family and community will be a vital part of the incumbent’s role as a Family Resource Worker.

Family Resource Workers are at the core of “family-centered” community practice where daily interventions include foster parent support, child welfare interventions, counselling, youth support, elder support as well as family safety interventions and liaising with schools and other service providers. Service and compliance with legislation may be compromised as CSSWs may be unable to carry out their required obligations and work in a thorough manner without this additional support. This inadequate programming support poses a risk to clients, staff, and the Department of Family Services.

Family Resource Workers are responsible for developing and delivering family wellness activities that enhance social, emotional, and cultural well-being while fostering community resilience. By working alongside Elders, local leaders, and community partners. Family Resource Workers help restore intergenerational connections, support positive parenting, and create safe, supportive spaces for family healing.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are typically obtained through a minimum of Grade 12, Applied Suicide Intervention Training (ASSIST) or ability to complete training within six months from date of hiring, and 2 years related experience.

This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

Human Resource Services Diploma or Social Services Worker Diploma or related certificate would be an asset.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
