Island Health Port Alice Health Centre in the Vancouver Island community of Port Alice is recruiting a Family Physician to provide primary and urgent care to about 1,200 residents.

The practice includes urgent care, lab, social work, mental health, public health and home nursing, with outreach to the remote Kyuquot community. APP Contract starts Sep 15, 2027; clinic hours Mon–Thu 9:00–16:30, Friday negotiable; recruitment incentive, relocation support and CME allowances are available.

Job description

The Port Alice Health Centre has an opening for a Family Physician to join a team of dedicated health care professionals providing primary and urgent care services to a community of 1,200 residents. Port Alice Health Centre services includes urgent care, laboratory, social work, mental health, public health and home nursing care. This is a collegial, collaborative physician practice, with a shared patient panel. Port Alice physicians also provide outreach service to the remote indigenous community of Kyuquot.

In addition to primary care services, Port Alice Health Center simultaneously operates an Urgent Care service in conjunction with remote certified nurses. Casual rural emergency department shifts are also available (optional) in the neighboring communities of Port Hardy, Port McNeill and Cormorant Island.

Hours of Work

Monday - Thursday Clinic hours: 09:00 am - 4:30 pm
Friday negotiable (Port Alice or outreach work to Kyuquot)

May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA), including (subject to change):

Recruitment Incentive: up to a maximum of $20,000 (pro-rated based on FTE)
Relocation: up to a maximum of $15,000 (amount based on location relocating from)
Flat fee: $36,232.32
Fee Premium: 23.38%
CME: $1,320/annum 2 years or less, $3,520/annum year 3-4 and $5,720/annum after 4 years in the community
