About the Role

At Family Services of Greater Vancouver, we’ve been helping people in crisis since 1928. As a non-profit, we help people develop skills and knowledge, empowering our neighbours to create positive change in their lives. Our team is made up of more than 420 staff, including expert counsellors and support workers who provide compassionate, client-centered care to youth experiencing homelessness, families and children impacted by trauma, victims of domestic violence, and other vulnerable people from an evidence-based, trauma-informed lens.

The person will provide counselling, parent-education, and support to families and children (birth - 12 years) referred by the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD). This position provides linkage between the family, the community, MCFD, and other professional services. The person reports to the Program Manager of Project Parent Fraser South. The position is located at FSGV’s Surrey (Guildford) office. Persons with a second language (e.g., Punjabi, Spanish, Farsi/Dari, Cantonese, Mandarin) are encouraged to apply.

Work Hours & Salary

35 hours per week (Full-time). Salary: GS 13 Step 1, $37.51 per hour. Location: Surrey, Delta, and Langley.

What you bring: Education, Training, Experience
  • A minimum of a Master’s degree in a social science (e.g., MSW / MA / MEd in counselling psychology) and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with children ages birth - 12 years.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Knowledge of child welfare policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of integrated case management/wrap-around services delivery.
  • Working knowledge of parenting strategies and ability to share these with families.
  • In-depth knowledge of child abuse dynamics.
  • Excellent crisis intervention skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with families presenting multiple service needs from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Competence in MS Word and Excel.
Additional Requirements
  • Working vehicle with valid BC Driver’s License and insurance.
  • Ability to work evenings and drive clients when needed.
  • Successful completion of criminal record check.
  • Proof of Covid-19 vaccination status.
