Job summary

The City of St. Albert is seeking a Facility Services Worker - Certified to join our Public Operations department. The role involves maintenance and repair of buildings and playgrounds, with responsibility for systems alterations and installation in compliance with safety regulations and City policies.

You will work independently or in teams, coordinate resources, and participate in standby rotations. A 5th Class Power Engineer certificate and several years of related experience are required,

Qualifications

  • 5th Class Power Engineer Certificate with 5 years of directly related building operations experience including HVAC, boilers, electrical, mechanical controls and security systems.
  • Strong customer service and ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public & building tenants.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair building and playground components as directed by the Team Lead, coordinating resources and contractors as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, legislation, bylaws, and City policies; participate in inspections, safety meetings, and incident investigations.
  • Provide administrative and technical support, including inspections, reports, estimates, invoices, and budget planning.
  • Support people and service delivery, responding to internal and public inquiries, and providing on‑the‑job training to employees.

Job description

The City of St. Albert is recruiting an individual to join our Public Operations department as a Facility Services Worker - Certified. Reporting to the Supervisor, Facilities & Property Management, this position will be responsible for various duties in all areas of maintenance and repair, as well as assisting in the alteration and installation of all systems in compliance with corporate and provincially legislated Occupational Health and Safety regulations, policies and codes of practice and the City of St Albert Environmental Management System.

The individual we seek can work independently and in a team while making sound decisions based on established standards.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair building and playground components as directed by the Team Lead, including coordinating required resources (supplies, tools, materials, and contractors), operating City vehicles/equipment, and responding to emergency call‑outs through the standby rotation.
  • Ensures compliance with safety, legislation, bylaws, and City policies, participating in inspections, safety meetings, incident investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide administrative and technical support, including inspections of buildings and playgrounds, preparing reports, estimates, invoices, and contributing to annual budget planning.
  • Support people and service delivery, responding to internal and public inquiries, and providing on‑the‑job training to employees.

Hours of Work

Participation in the standby roster will be required.

Compensation

$36.03 per hour including a comprehensive benefits package and accrued paid vacation starting at 3 weeks per year.

Conditions of Employment
  • This position is represented by the Union CUPE 941, and the terms and conditions of employment are governed by the collective agreement between the Union and The City of St. Albert.
  • The successful candidate will be required to provide proof of educational and professional credentials.
  • The successful applicant will be required to obtain a satisfactory police information check.
  • The successful applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a RCMP issued Security Clearance.
  • A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License and clear drivers abstract showing fewer than 6 demerits is required, as this position involves driving City vehicles.
