The City of Regina is seeking a Facilities Operator I to support daily operations of indoor arenas, pools and other City facilities in Regina, Saskatchewan. This casual role covers maintenance, cleaning, security and customer service, reporting to the Foreman of Facilities Operations.

You’ll work independently and adhere to safety and regulatory standards. Responsibilities include HVAC maintenance, water treatment monitoring, building upkeep, minor electrical and plumbing tasks, equipment

Qualifications

  • Completion of Saskatchewan Refrigeration Plant Operators Certificate and Swimming Pool Operators Certificate with 1–2 years related experience.
  • Willing to obtain First Aid, WHIMIS, and Fireman’s Certificates as required.
  • Knowledge of safe handling procedures for chemicals used in operation (Freon, Chlorine, Ammonia) and general cleaning agents.
  • Ability to operate maintenance equipment safely and perform routine checks adhering to standards.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain HVAC equipment, pool and arena facilities, mechanical systems and boilers.
  • Monitor and adjust water treatment chemicals as needed.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance and minor electrical/plumbing repairs.
  • Operate safety-critical equipment (forklifts, ice flooding machines, small tractors).
  • Provide courteous information and assistance to facility users.

Position Summary

The Facilities Operator I position supports the daily operations of indoor arenas, pools, and other City of Regina facilities. Responsibilities include manual and automated building/mechanical maintenance, cleaning, general security, and customer service. The position requires working independently and reporting to the Foreman of Facilities Operations.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular maintenance and servicing of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, pool and arena facilities, mechanical equipment, and boiler systems.
  • Monitor and adjust water treatment chemicals as needed.
  • Oversee building and preventative maintenance schedules, ensuring the facility's general condition through cleaning and minor electrical and plumbing repairs.
  • Operate and maintain various equipment, including forklifts, ice flooding machines, and small tractors.
  • Ensure the security of the facility and its equipment, including opening and closing the facility and confirming that all users have left the premises.
  • Provide customer service to facility users by offering information, explaining schedules, rules, and regulations, and addressing concerns and requests.
  • Enforce procedural rules and regulations, ensuring the personal safety of facility users.
  • Perform related tasks as required.
Key Qualifications
  • The knowledge, skills and abilities for this position require successful completion of the Saskatchewan Refrigeration Plant Operators Certificate and Swimming Pool Operators Certificate combined with one (1) to two (2) years related experience.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain First Aid Certificate, WHIMIS Certification and Fireman’s Certificate as required.
  • Knowledge of effective facility and equipment maintenance practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of safe handling procedures, characteristics and uses of various chemicals used in the operation of equipment (i.e. Freon, Chlorine, and Anhydrous Ammonia) and general cleaning agents.
  • Ability to properly use chemicals and to conduct tests adhering to departmental standards and guidelines.
  • Ability to operate standard maintenance equipment safely and effectively and perform routine equipment maintenance and checks adhering to standards as outlined by the City of Regina and applicable Provincial guidelines.
  • Ability to provide quality internal and external customer service.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision demonstrating sound judgement and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to physically perform the position functions, including heavy lifting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Working/Other Conditions
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have the means and ability to travel within the City of Regina.
  • The employee will be required to work shifts.

  • Successful candidate may be required to obtain and provide a satisfactory criminal record check, as per the City of Regina's Criminal Record Check Policy.
  • Successful candidate will be required to provide proof of acquired education.
