Job summary

The City of Abbotsford is hiring a Facility Maintenance Technician II to perform technical, building service, custodial and maintenance work across recreation facilities, including ice arena operations.

Ideal candidates have two years in ice-making equipment and refrigeration, valid certifications, and a willingness to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Competitive pay and benefits are offered.

Facility Maintenance Technician II

Operations CUPE, Full-time J0926-0494 The City of Abbotsford is currently seeking a self-motivated professional to join their dynamic team as a full-time Facility Maintenance Technician II in our Operations Department. This position performs technical, building service, custodial and maintenance work which may vary according to recreation facility activities and requirements. Your thorough knowledge of materials, methods and practices used in pool and arena operations will assist in pool maintenance and water chemistry; installing and maintaining ice; operating related equipment; performing minor maintenance and repair of machines, pumps and filters; performing minor construction, renovation and maintenance of recreation buildings, and ensuring building security along with performing custodial functions for the ice arena, swimming pool, public and multi-purpose areas. The successful candidate participates in activities related to special events and program activities; provides assistance to user groups and other organizations using recreation facilities; and ensures security measures are implemented and conforms to facility rules and regulations. If you are a team player with considerable knowledge of the applicable hazards and safety precautions, including procedures for handling chlorine, ammonia and cleaning agents used in City recreation facilities, we want to hear from you!

To be considered for this position, you must have:

• Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
• Two years of experience in the operation and maintenance of ice-making equipment and refrigeration and pool filtration systems, or equivalent
• Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence
• Ice Facility Operator (IFO) Certificate OR Refrigeration Plant Operator Certificate or BC equivalent
• Level I and Level II Pool Operator's Certificates from a recognized association or educational institute

Due to the nature of the job, you must be available to work a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays, and split shifts. You must also have the ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions including exposure to dust, high noise levels, ammonia, odours, chemicals and significant temperature fluctuation and be physically able to perform the essential duties of the position, including lifting and carrying items over 22.7kg.

This position is unionized, CUPE Local 774, and the hourly rate of pay is from $33.56 to $39.50.
