Job Summary:
The Facilities Supervisor at The Second City is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, upkeep, and functionality of our theater facilities. This multifaceted role involves maintaining various equipment and systems, including lighting, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and able to collaborate effectively with diverse teams to create a seamless performance environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facility Inspections and Maintenance:
  • Conduct regular inspections of theater facilities and equipment to assess functionality and safety.
  • Schedule and perform preventive maintenance tasks on HVAC systems, plumbing, lighting, and electrical equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Document maintenance activities, including repairs performed, parts used, and any follow-up actions needed.
  • Routine Maintenance:
  • Carry out routine maintenance activities, including replacing light bulbs and painting walls and fixtures.
  • Ensure all equipment is operating within safe parameters and recommend upgrades or replacements as necessary.
  • Troubleshooting and Repairs:
  • Diagnose and repair equipment malfunctions, including technical troubleshooting of audio-visual and lighting systems.
  • Respond promptly to repair requests from staff, ensuring minimal disruption to performances and events.
  • Collaboration and Coordination:
  • Work closely with stage managers, technical directors, and production crews to set up and dismantle equipment and stage sets for performances.
  • Liaise with the Audience Operations Manager for daily tasks, projects, and repairs to ensure smooth operations.
  • Inventory Management and Orders:
  • Maintain an organized inventory of spare parts, tools, and maintenance supplies, ensuring necessary items are available for repairs and installations.
  • Receive, count, and sign for scheduled orders of maintenance supplies and equipment, verifying accuracy against delivery documents.
  • Safety Compliance:
  • Ensure all maintenance and repair work is performed in accordance with industry safety standards and regulations.
  • Conduct safety inspections and maintain documentation related to compliance with health and safety protocols.
  • Develop and maintain emergency procedures related to facility operations and protocols.

Specifications:
This position has the following requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent accredited certification; technical or vocational training in facilities management or a related field is a plus.
  • Basic proficiency in computers, internet applications, and email communication.
  • Ability to lift items up to 40 pounds and perform physical tasks, including standing, walking, and crouching for extended periods (at least 4 hours).
  • Comfortable using a 6-foot step ladder and other equipment as needed.

Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, candidates should have:

  • A fundamental understanding of theater equipment and systems, along with a background in maintenance and repair.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work efficiently under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams.
