Position Overview

The District of West Vancouver is hiring casual Facilities Maintenance Worker I’s responsible for:

1. Performing cleaning and custodial duties at Community Services facilities;
2. Routine maintenance and repair of ice-making and swimming pool equipment;
3. Minor plumbing, carpentry, and electrical repairs not requiring trade certification;
4. Operating and maintaining the building heating system without provincial certification;
5. Operating Direct Digital Control Systems;
6. Monitoring geothermal heat pump and aquatic pool systems;
7. Other related duties as required.

Qualifications

• Completion of 12th grade plus technical courses at a vocational institute, with related experience in building maintenance; or an equivalent combination of training and experience;
• Pool Operator’s and/or Refrigeration Operator Certificate preferred;
• Flexible availability;
• Current BC Class 5 Driver’s License;
• BC Safety Authority Refrigeration Safety Awareness Certificate.

Candidate Profile

• Ability to perform building maintenance and cleaning tasks;
• Collaborative team player;
• Good knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in swimming pool, refrigeration, and ice-making operations;
• Knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and heating equipment;
• Strong written and oral communication skills;
• Previous experience in a recreation facility is preferred.
