Job summary

Main Street Project (MSP) is a community health centre serving Winnipeg since 1972, addressing homelessness and related health issues through housing-first, harm-reduction approaches. The Facilities Maintenance Worker role supports MSP buildings and services with preventive and reactive tasks, ensuring safe, functional spaces for participants and staff.

The position requires willingness to perform physical work, basic maintenance skills across trades, and adherence to WHMIS/PPE protocols.

Qualifications

  • Prior maintenance experience in a similar community health environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic maintenance issues including plumbing, carpentry, and electrical.
  • Reliable, punctual, and dependable in fulfilling position obligations.
  • Attention to detail and ability to complete tasks.
  • Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility to changing needs and tasks.
  • Ability to take initiative beyond the scope of assigned daily/weekly tasks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Customer service skills, ability to interact professionally with staff, visitors, clients and management.
  • Working knowledge of basic computer skills (i.e. Outlook).

Responsibilities

  • Complete assigned maintenance tasks each shift, ensuring appropriate documentation and communication.
  • Take the lead on maintenance projects including plumbing, carpentry, painting, and furniture fixtures installation/removal.
  • Monitor and execute preventative maintenance measures.
  • Meet with external contractors to provide support and information.
  • Notify Coordinator concerning major repairs or additions to building systems.
  • Collect and remove garbage from MSP properties indoors and outdoors.
  • Pickup full sharps containers and bring to central pickup location.
  • Adhere to health and safety protocols (WHMIS, PPE, OSH).
  • Snow removal and ice sanding as required.
  • Move furniture, donations and deliveries.
  • Other duties as assigned.
