Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education is required.
  • Red-Seal Journeyperson in Carpentry, Electrical, or Plumbing is required.
  • 5+ years journeyman experience in commercial construction/industrial plants with 2+ years supervisory experience.
  • Maintenance Work Management or BOMI Facilities Management certs within 2 years of hire.
  • First aid/CPR certs are preferred; a valid driver’s licence is required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise maintenance program staff and coordinate work assignments.
  • Track preventative and general maintenance using CMMS (e.g., TMA).
  • Assist manager with work plans, budgeting, and prioritizing maintenance.
  • Lead weekly meetings and participate in safety initiatives.
  • Ensure Occupational Health & Safety compliance and safe work practices.
  • Review time sheets and act when needed; can substitute as Manager.
  • Perform duties as required within training bounds.

This position is a CUPE 59 position and will be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Should it not be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, external candidates will be considered.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Manager, this working trade’s position oversees all aspects of the facilities maintenance program

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Coordinates, assigns and supervises the work of staff assigned to the maintenance program for facilities; supports management in regards to the work performance of staff.
  • Assigns and tracks facility preventative maintenance and general maintenance requests using the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS, e.g.TMA etc.)
  • Assists the Facilities Maintenance Manager with developing work plans and budgeting for the maintenance program.
  • Assists the Facilities Maintenance Manager with defining and prioritizing maintenance work.
  • Participates in weekly meetings with Facilities Maintenance Manager to discuss weekly job planning and prioritization.
  • Assists with the identification and development of standard operating practices.
  • Supports and promotes a safe and positive workplace culture through a variety of initiatives and activities. Ensures a corporate approach to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS).
  • Supports and promotes the health and safety of employees in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations in addition to the City of Saskatoon’s administrative Occupational Health & Safety policies and departmental procedures.
  • Reviews and approves all time sheet entries (TSE) for trade staff.
  • Acts as the Facilities Maintenance Manager as required.
  • Performs work of assigned staff within bounds of training and experience.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience Requirements

  • Grade 12 Education
  • Possession of an Interprovincial Red-Seal Journeyperson Certificate in Carpentry, Electrical, or Plumbing
  • Five years’ journeyperson experience in commercial construction or industrial plant field plus two years' supervisory experience.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain, a recognized Maintenance Work Management Certificate and courses on Production and Operations Management and Human Resources Management, or a BOMI – Facilities Management Certificate or System Maintenance Administrator designation within two years after the date of hire.
  • Possession of an Occupational Health and Safety Certificate would be considered an asset.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, valid, recognized first aid and CPR certificates.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's Licence.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

  • Considerable knowledge of practices related to the care and operation of equipment and materials used in facility maintenance.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures associated with working with hazardous products, including knowledge of confined space procedures and WHMIS.
  • Knowledge of and ability to work with CMMS systems, and identify and track key performance indicators, etc.
  • Ability to perform duties in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining a clean work site.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.
  • Advanced computer skills using word-processing, spreadsheet and other data-processing software.

Weekly Hours:40

Salary Range:$41.44to$45.69CADper hour (2026rates)
