Job summary

Port Hope Municipality is seeking a Facilities Attendant to assist with the maintenance of the Jack Burger Sports Complex, performing custodial and basic maintenance duties, and addressing inquiries from facility users.

The role requires adherence to health and safety rules, supervision during public skating, and willingness to work evenings and weekends. Training in First Aid and WHMIS is preferred, with opportunities for on-the-job training.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Facilities Operator with ice flooding duties and facility cleaning.

  • Receive and respond to inquiries from the public and facility users.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations and communicate guidelines.
  • Supervise participants during public skating and enforce rules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.

The Facilities Attendant is responsible to assist with the maintenance of the facilities at the Jack Burger Sports Complex, including but not limited to general building custodial and maintenance duties. Responsible to address and respond to inquiries from the public and facility users and to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements in all aspects of their work.

Compensation
$17.85 to $19.34 per hour
Qualifications
  • High school diploma would be preferred.
  • Training in Emergency Procedures, First Aid, WHMIS and/or willingness to attain training on the job.
  • Janitorial, arena or pool experience would be preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the Facilities Operator with ice flooding by moving nets, sweeping and shoveling snow and cleaning and filling ice resurfacer with water.
  • Provide general housekeeping duties for the facility including but not limited to sweeping and mopping of floors, cleaning of washrooms and change rooms, cleaning of walls and glass and other maintenance duties as required.
  • Receive and respond to inquiries from the public and users of the facilities and assist with resolution of the query or direct them accordingly.
  • Comply with all Health and Safety regulations, procedures and security measures while undertaking their duties and shall ensure the public are aware of guidelines where infractions are observed or as required to follow emergency procedures.
  • Supervise the conduct of all participants during public skating and/or shinny to ensure their safety and enforce all rules as outlined by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture.
  • Adhere to high standards of ethical behaviour and demonstrate their understanding that their personal actions impact the public’s perception of the Municipality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Facilities, Facilities Operator or designate.

  • Availability and flexibility to work evenings and weekends;
  • Valid and Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Primarily work indoors with varied temperatures from cold in the arena in the winter season to warm temperatures in the pool area.
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes.
  • Required to push, pull and lift heavy objects on a regular basis.
  • Variety of walking, sitting and standing required.
