Job summary

Compass Group Canada is seeking an Environmental Services Supervisor in Mount Pearl, NL. The role focuses on personnel management, infection control, safety, and budget oversight to ensure high standards of cleanliness and service across the site.

Candidates should have at least two years of supervisory experience in Environmental Services, strong budgeting knowledge, and effective communication skills. Union environment experience is a plus; a comprehensive benefits package is offered.

Qualifications

  • At least two years of Environmental Services Supervisory experience.
  • Strong infection control and health & safety knowledge.
  • Experience in a unionized environment is preferred.
  • Understanding of budgeting processes and profit and loss concepts.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain responsibility for personnel management functions: recruitment, hiring, evaluation, and union guidelines.
  • Coordinate housekeeping and porter services with emphasis on infection control and safety.
  • Manage site budget costs and expenses.
  • Develop and implement policies and routines to meet site needs.
  • Conduct inventory of supplies, order as per budget.
  • Ensure staff attendance, clock-ins, and document lateness or absence.
  • Prepare assignment sheets and communicate changes during shifts.
  • Assign keys, radios, and beepers; track security of assets.
  • Check equipment and instruct staff to address deficiencies.
  • Assist staff to maintain high cleanliness and service standards; train staff as assigned.

Job description

Now, If You Were To Come On Board As One Of Our Environment Services Supervisors, We’d Ask You To Do The Following For Us

  • Maintain responsibility and accountability for Personnel Management Functions of the department. Personnel Management includes new associate interviews, selection, hiring, evaluation and on occasion termination in accordance with Compass Standards, Client Contract and applicable Union Collective Agreement.
  • Coordinate and support all relevant activities of the housekeeping and porter services with a special emphasis on Infection Control and Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Maintain responsibility and accountability for the Financial Management of the costs and expenses of the budget for the site.
  • Develop and follows appropriate policies, procedures, job routines to meet the needs of the site.
  • Conduct regular inventory of housekeeping supplies and order these, keeping costs in line with approved budgetary amounts.
  • Ensure assigned staff have reported to work and clocked in properly; document late or absent employees.
  • Document call offs, and replace for any shift and coordinate assigned staff breaks.
  • Prepare and distribute assignment sheets to staff and review priorities. Communicate additions or changes to the assignment sheets as they arise throughout the shift.
  • Assign designated keys, radios and beepers to assigned staff. Maintain accurate record of such assignments and ensure security of keys.
  • Check all equipment used by staff for proper supplies, neatness, cleanliness and mechanical problems. Instruct designated personnel to correct deficiencies.
  • Assist staff to ensure highest standards of cleanliness and service and conduct staff training as assigned.

  • At least two (2) years of Environmental Services Supervisory experience.
  • Working knowledge of all housekeeping procedures and laundry management with a strong emphasis on Infection Control, Standard Precautions and Health & Safety.
  • Previous experience working in a unionized environment is preferred.
  • Understanding of budgeting processes and awareness of profit and loss concepts.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills both one-on-one and in group situations.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written format and oral presentations.
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills and an ability to prioritize
  • Excellent computer skills.
