Job description

Program Facilitator - Youth Leading Change

Fixed Term (Until March 31, 2027), Full-Time | Hybrid - Edmonton

About the Role

The Newcomer Centre is looking for a Facilitator to support our Youth Leading Change program. This program helps newcomer youth build leadership skills, explore career opportunities, get involved in their communities, and gain experience through workshops, volunteer opportunities, and hands-on activities.

In this role, you will work directly with youth, co-facilitate engaging workshops, provide mentorship and support, and help create programming that responds to participants’ interests and needs. You will also support community activities, volunteer placements, program tracking, and other day-to-day program needs.

Hybrid in this role refers to a combination of on-site service delivery and community-based work (e.g., employer visits, workshops, outreach, and client meetings). This is not a work-from-home position. Remote work occurs only occasionally, based on program needs.

What You'll Do
  • Co-facilitate interactive workshops, group discussions, and activities for newcomer youth.
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment where youth feel comfortable participating.
  • Support youth in building leadership, life skills, civic engagement, and career readiness.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance related to personal, educational, and professional development.
  • Adapt activities and facilitation approaches based on different learning styles and participant needs.
  • Support in-person, online, and hybrid programming, including sessions through Zoom.
  • Help plan and deliver community projects, volunteer opportunities, and youth-focused activities.
  • Supervise and support youth during volunteer placements and community events throughout Edmonton.
  • Gather youth feedback and help improve program activities and content.
  • Maintain attendance, participant information, program documentation, and other required tracking.
  • Create engaging presentations and workshop materials using tools such as Canva and Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Support communication and coordination with community partners, volunteers, guest speakers, and other stakeholders.
What You Bring
  • At least 2 years of experience in youth facilitation, youth programming, community development, education, training, or a related area.
  • Experience facilitating workshops, discussions, or activities with youth.
  • Experience using interactive and youth-centered approaches to engage participants.
  • Experience providing mentorship or supporting youth with leadership, volunteering, or career development.
  • Ability to facilitate both in-person and online programming.
  • Experience creating workshop content, activities, presentations, or other learning materials.
  • Experience with attendance tracking, participant data, and program documentation.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage different program activities.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong English communication skills.
Preferred / Asset Qualifications
  • Experience working with newcomer, immigrant, or refugee youth.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse communities.
  • A post-secondary diploma in social services, education, community development, or a related field.
  • Experience using Canva, Microsoft PowerPoint, Zoom, and Excel.
  • Experience supervising youth during community activities, volunteer placements, or events.
  • Additional language skills.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
Additional Requirements
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Clear Intervention Record Check.
  • Availability to work Tuesday-Saturday, including occasional additional evening hours.
  • Ability to travel to community and event locations throughout Edmonton as required.
